posting snippets of recordings, Is it legal?

Last week we had a police chase through town. I recorded a portion of the audio, and posted it on my news feed. A listener has questioned the legality of doing so. Can I do this? To be more specific, I went to the archives for my feed here on RR, played back the audio, and recorded it onto my PC.

might be legal now but after we are forced into socialism it will be like a communist country i feel bad for the younger generation i am 60 yrs old i have lived the better of my life i worry about the next gen they have no clue what they are in for just my opinion

I would say yes (99.9% of the time) Though, sometimes, if you annoy the wrong person they can get creative with their understanding of the law (If you catch my drift) Would you win in court? Yes. But you wouldn't want to go through that.

It depends on who is objecting. You should take it down if it's an LEO, but if it's some pretend Atty. just ignore them.

My opinion, if it has some sensitive data edit it out. Otherwise, follow the "rule" I mentioned above.

60 years and you never had your SHIFT key or PUNCTUATION keys fixed? This is a problem. We have a social program for that.

What legalities are you worried about? From a communications privacy standpoint, I can't see how it would be legally any different than your sending the audio to RR and aiding in the creation of the original archive, which is already accessible to any person with a premium membership (there's a long discussion of that issue in this thread). From a copyright POV, RadioReference licenses the audio recordings under this license, which allows them to be used with attribution.

P.S., it would probably be easier in the future to download the MP3 file and trim it in a program like Audacity.
