Old Scanners never die. I've had an old BC 780xlt and a Pro 2035 sitting on the desktop for years. They did their share of the work in the analogue days, but mostly started to collect dust. So I loaded them up with Milair stuff, and a few odd other things, and put them back to work. Starting hearing quite a bit on the Milair side, so I upgraded to an antenna that was closer turned to that band, added a multicoupler and things came alive.

Well today I was able to hear the F-35s flying Combat Air Patrol and talking to their NORAD controller Bigfoot on 271.000am. Also was able to hear Air Force 1 once they came up on the DFW West Tower 124.150. Best part was when the F-35s scrambled to intercept an aircraft that had violated the Temporary Flight Restrictions, and heard them trying to make contact on the Guard freq. of 121.500.

Good day of scanning for me. Don't think I ever turned up the volume on these Digital scanners today.

Should we start guessing what you heard or were you going to share what was on the scanner? Also, is this in or around Dallas, or do we need to keep guessing?

Potus is here in Dallas for a couple of private fundraiser events. He's staying overnight, and will go on to Houston tomorrow for additional fund raising events.

I was working for a car rental company at DFW airport in 1984, when Reagan flew in. The Republican convention that year was in the Dallas Convention Center. When he came in, they blocked all the exits from the car rental shops until the motorcade came by on the service road. Reagan stayed at the hotel that was in the airport proper, south of terminal 2W (Braniff's abode before they went bankrupt). Reagan's motorcade was going from the airport to downtown Dallas on a Sunday, for church services at First Baptist. Listening to the activity, I heard what was probably a secret service agent call Dallas PD's copter. Told him that there was an unidentified copter hovering over SH Hwy 183 (the route downtown) near Texas Stadium. He said 'tell him to clear area, or we will clear it for him'. Whoever it was (probably news media for someone) must have gotten the hint & moved, as there were further comments along that line.

I have a 780 as well, they're a Gem for mil and civilian aircraft. Bought mine New decades ago, still works flawless ! Ah, the days of simpler technology !

I think I heard some of this and blew it off as AM noise, turned it down and turned digital up. WOW, oop's ... I hear A LOT on 271.0000 out of FWJRB and Barksdale over here. Mostly listen to BYP 24 Ultra High 254.3. It's interesting though how many of these pilots don't monitor frequencies you would think they would be glued to. Bet that pilot buys a nice new radio ... when he gets his license back ...

I've been flying around the DFW Metro area for years and I rarely listen to guard. I'm way too busy with two radios working approach or on a CTAF, and/or grabbing ATIS's etc. And sometimes I'm flying with just one radio which really adds to the workload.

The only time I'm ever monitoring guard is if I'm on a cross country flight and I have two radios.
