Power Adapter Not Charging -BCD396xt

Hello all. I have a BCD 396xt ( P25 Phase I) for a good 10 years. A rock of a scanner. Have always operated it with rechargeable batteries and power adapter plugged in. It stayed on as long as I wanted-sometimes for days. Occasionally I would see "illegal voltage" . Recently, I have to recharge the batteries every 12 hours or so on an external charger. The power adapter doesn't seem to be working. I purchased a replacement adaptor (proper outputs etc) but it is clearly not charging the batteries. Any ideas?

How old are the batteries ?

In the scanner menu, check Settings > Battery Option > Set Charge Time.

I know of someone here that has the same issue. Replaced the ac adapter, same issue, tried my ac adapter a known working one, same. Its an internal problem.
Its not the charge time setting. Check the switch setting in the battery compartment if it was accidentally moved.

I did one time have the same issue here, I sprayed electronic spray cleaner in to the battery switch and moved the switch back-forth a few times, worked again. I did the same to his, but it still doesnt work.

Undoubtedly subsequent replies people are going to say dont charge em in the the scanner.

Thank you all. The batteries are brand new and I externally charged them. Only use recharges that don't exceed the 2300 mA recommendation. Made sure the internal switch was set up correctly as well as the programming options for charging. And replaced the power adapter. At this point, I am assuming it is an internal contact problem that is no longer working-so I'll keep it on batteries and make sure I have a fresh set. PS Bought the Uniden HPII so no longer depend on my trusty 396 as a home base. It will make a great companion though while on the road. Stay well and safe. and Thanks!
