I would not use it, there are some articles on the Internet mentioning the radio runs warm at higher voltages and even the recommended Icom AD-55NS seems to be too high in voltage and has RFI problems.

There is a good power supply that is low RFI for HF radios with 14V output and twice the current of the AD55NS but the DC plug is different. The vendor of that supply is checking into shipping it with a mating R8600 plug. Check out https://proaudioeng.com/products/pae-kx33-low-rfi-ac-power-supply/ I have one and use it all the time with small HF transceivers.

Otherwise most any 12-14V linear power supply rated for several amps should be fine

Will my Icom AD-55A be adequate for powering the R8600? 16VDC, 1.5A. (tested at 19VDC)
Thanks.

Thanks prcguy. I posted this then had to hit the road. I picked up an Astron 13.8VDC, 3amp power supply there at HRO as I picked up the R8600. I didn't like the extra voltage from the AD55A supplied with my R75 either (too hot) so I have a Samlex 13.8VDC, 7amp running that rig. Glad I bought the Astron for the new R8600. BTW the R8600 is smaller than my R75-I did not expect that. Modern tech!

The Astron should work fine but it will get a little warm with continuous use. We are now expecting a very detailed report on your R8600. Did you happen to get an unblocked version?

Not sure about unblocked-how can I find out? I do notice the Astron's heat, and the R8600 is just as warm itself! Should I run my boxfan behind it?

My Pyramid PS8KX ran too hot to touch so I got the Astron 12-A. Stays cool - almost room temps and I often run it for days. Both of my Icom 8600's run well on it - I have a small desk fan blowing across them which helps a lot. Congrats on your new 8600 ridgescan - it's a magnificent receiver.

If your S/N starts with 02 its a blocked US version and an unblocked usually starts with a 04. I was able to qualify for an unblocked US version and my R8600 is doing some US Govt work as I'm typing this.

Thanks:) I'm finding out this rig opens a whole new world of refined, stellar reception-and I haven't even delved out of HF yet!
Good thing I didn't use the AD55A power brick as Icom said in the manual "DO NOT feed more than 16V into the R8600...that brick tests out at 19V.

Icom 8600 power

I am powering my 8600 with the Icom AD-55NS adapter. I was worried it might not provide enough power, but it has been working great, running cool. So far, so good.

Good to hear that:) I joined the "Groups.IO" and some guy from Finland reported that his AD-55NS caused RFI in the lower HF bands but I think his was defective.

A number of people have complained about RFI from the AD-55NS and I remember someone sniffing one with a spectrum analyzer showing radiated noise. I think if your antenna is far away from the radio and you have well shielded coax its less of a problem, but if your antenna is in the same room as the AD-55NS there will be trouble.
