For those that monitor the Power Services in Southwest MS, not only should you monitor Entergy's TRS, but also the multi county South West MS Electric Power Association. This agency covers Jefferson, most of Lincoln, parts of Adams, and Copiah Counties. The Repeater sites are in Lorman, and in Brookhaven. Main ops are on 153.4850 MHz. The power companies make interesting listening during severe weather. Especially if your using a portable and the lights are out in your area, s you can get accurate reports of how much dammage is done to the area, and how long it will be before power is restored.

A side note on the Mississippi Power companies, specifically the one down here on the coast...

They're comms are encrypted with voice-inversion technology.

Why? I have no idea, but the primary freq used by Singing River EPA and Coast Electric are encrypted.

South Mississippi EPA as of July 1 has swapped over to a digital ASTRO system. Most other EPA's in the southern part of the state will be in the future.

Mississippi Power Co. in the Hattiesburg area seems to have disappeard from the VHF high band. Their trucks have what looks like a magnetic mount 800Mhz antenna.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM,... will do an FCC search and see if they now have an 800 system grant.... but thats sounding like they are trying to get onboard the cheap route first,.. keep watching the trucks for permanent mounted ants soon.

Mississippi Power uses a digital 800 Mhz Motorola trunked system. It is a separate system from Southern Linc. The Southern Linc towers are all tied together by T-1 or leased lines from Bell South. In the event of a ice storm or a hurricane it is likely these lines will be out of service making the radio system useless. Mississippi Powers radio system is located on their own towers using their digital microwave network. Generally, the microwave towers have battery and generator backup power in the event of a major storm and keep up and running on their own without the need of a outside company(BellSouth).

South Mississippi EPA operates on 153.6050 and 158.1750 Mhz. The system is a conventional Motorola Digital Astro. Is it possible to monitor their system using a digital scanner?

Yes the digital scanners will monitor conventional digital formats. As long as the ASTRO system in question is NOT VSELP!
