Power supply

I am new to this hobby and learning as I go. I have a FT2900R and looking to get a power supply to use it as a starting base unit. Looked at several that range from 6 amp to above 30. I am lost on this, any info would be helpful.

I'd recommend you consider a regulated power supply rated at least 30a. Looking to the future, you will be able to run multiple pieces of equipment -- HF and VHF/UHF and accessories -- from just one unit. And the power supply will loaf along rather than running at full capacity all the time. HTH.

a rule of thumb i use is usually 1/2 amp for every watt or maybe more 50 watt radios 20-25 amps 50 watt and above 30+ amps u can also use a car battery, marine battery, or gell cell. you can use a "trickle charger to keep a floating charge on it, at one time i used a ridding lawn mower battery connected to a automatic battery charger. that would monitor the voltage and automatically turn and off. i got both at my
hood wallyword for like 50 or 60 bucks.
