Just received my 996P2 back from uniden repair, Before it went in I had it mounted in my truck and I would leave the radio on during road trips making several Stops. Now every time I re-start the truck the radio shuts down and re-boots , It did not do this before. Is this a setting that has been changed or is something else going on ? I thought someone else had this problem awhile back maybe with another model but I can't find the post. The radio is of course wired past the switch so it will stay on all the time.

Check your truck battery… is it getting towards the end of life? Your radio is rebooting due to power drain when the starter kicks in… if the voltage drops below a certain point the radio will reboot. Apparently, the battery was is better shape before you sent the radio n for repair.

I have a 996T that i also use in the truck on the same connection before I started using the 996P2, It still does not do it with the 996T. I haven't checked the battery voltage yet but it is only a couple years old.

Check to make sure the 12v power connector and ground wire to the radio is "clean" and fully inserted.

Assuming the power line is sufficient size, this is usually a battery problem but it's probably not a problem battery. As batteries age, they very gradually become less efficient. They still provide sufficient power to do their job for a couple of years or more but evidence of the declining efficiency often shows itself when you crank the vehicle with a scanner or ham radio already powered up.

So as other have proposed, those voltages are low. Don't know what voltage will make the scanner behave as it is doing for you but I'd guess this is the reason.

You may want to review an option from the this previous post:

Check the battery voltage on the battery clamps, not the battery posts. You may be dropping voltage across a corroded or loose battery connection when the high current is required during starting the vehicle. I would also check the voltage from the post to the clamp on both positive and negative during startup. If you see voltage between the post and the clamp, a poor connection is the problem.

Mine does it too, I just don't take chances with it so I always shut off the power before turning car off and power radio up after starting. Rather do this as I have accidentally left the radio on after I got out of the car because it was quiet and hearing it as I walked up to it the next morning to leave and "darn, left if on all night"
