I decided to purchase the premium subscription again, been a while; figured why not and I could update my GREs.

I have tried two different cards, two different payment amounts, and get the same PayPal error every time...something to the effect "This card cannot be used for this payment, use another card." Both cards are legit, one was an actual CC, the other was a debit. I'm fairly certain the debit card was what I used so many years ago to purchase the premium subscription.

If you don't want my money, just tell me...get rid of PayPal, that's probably your main problem.

Do like I did & pay by way of Mail, print a copy of the payment plan & mail it with your payment.

Never had a problem of any kind using PayPal to renew subscriptions on RR.

If you're having trouble with your own PayPal account, you can mail in a payment here:

or use your credit card here:

I'm not using PayPal, I'm using a CC through the RR, which requires you to work through PayPal as a guest...I don't even like using PayPal.

I wouldn't have a PayPal account if it was the last thing on Earth.

Alright, placed the order through ScannerMaster. I was hoping to get the five year subscription to save some $$. Probably buy a HomePatrol next year, so it won't matter at that point.

For me, long ago, something happened, or I became aware of something, that soured me on PayPal. Now, I can't remember what it was, but the "never again" rule is still very active in my mind.

In my case it was a bad/crooked eBay buyer, and that lost me a radio and the money and my reputation as a buyer/seller. That buyer had done that same stunt to a lot of legit sellers and eBay let him continue.

I left eBay and PayPal at that time...that's been almost ten years ago.

I'm guessing nothing has been resolved with this issue, I to was trying to purchase a subscription and software but it will not take my credit cards either. I went to Scanner Master and its also run thru paypal and will not execpt my cards. I like the trial version of the ARC500 software but I can't seem to pay for it, hate to have to go looking for a different program but cant seem to find a easy way to pay you.

I have the same issue using certain cards with paypal-its not paypal but the bank itself. I called my bank and they say that they have an automatic flag that locks out card from being used on paypal due to past fraud issues. I had to have them note the account and give permission for the card to be used on that site. I checked with the other bank for the other rejected card and same thing but they won't allow me to get the flag removed so I cannot use it on paypal.

Thanks k1agh, I just called my bank and they said there was no blocks on my account and should be good to go. Not sure what to do at this point but I'm thinking it has something to do with Pay Pal, I order online with many different venders with that card and never had a problem.

Why not? Mine has the visa logo and is protected like a credit card my bank says. i use a small bank here in maine and they watch the accounts like hawks for any type of fraud. To the other poster maybe paypal has a block in its system for the card issuer due to past issues also.

The problem is that the crook has access to everything that is in that debit card account and can wipe it clean... might take the bank a few days to replace it just fyi. If that account is used to pay bills via check or auto pay the potential is there to start bouncing checks from there it spirals out of control. It can be a big mess to clean up.

When I talked to the bank they said their wasn't even a attempt make to them for a purchase so Pay Pal never even sent it to the bank. And I also would never use my debit card online.

Correct, credit cards are better!

I was a fraud investigator for about 10 years and this is correct. The thief can drain your bank account quickly and then you start bouncing checks. It could also take the bank longer to restore your account whereas credit accounts can be corrected almost immediately. Your personal liability for fraud on a credit card is maxed out at $50 by law. You could be liable for $500 or more with a debit card, depending on a number of factors.

I make all of my purchases with a credit card that I pay off every month interest-free. As an added bonus, the credit card company pays be about $50 every three months via check as a cash-back bonus, so I make about $200/year from them. I've never paid them a penny.
