I am hearing the JFK inaugural speech and some speeches by FDR being transmitted on 36.1 Mhz at 11;20 EST July 6, 2012. Lots of fading, so signal is very hard to copy. I specifically heard the JFK quote"ask not what your country can do for you" After several minutes of FDR, a JFK speech resumed.
At 11:25 signal is down in the mud. What little I can hear seems like a repeat of the first JFK speech.

I am guessing this is a US MIL transmitter. Please chime in if you have any ideas about the origin. Usually I am in (SC) a pretty good spot for FT. Hood when skip is present, but my low band antenna(11m vertical) was torn down by a falling tree.

11:33 EST- no signal

My guess is that it was US military and that they were testing; they probably use some looped audio to feed the transmitter so that they can monitor the transmissions possibly for propagation effects and/or other technical testing. The speeches were just convenient long audio portions. US military is pretty loose with what they are allowed to do on their radio systems especially for testing and setup purposes.

Okay, that would make sense.

Just curious - where are you that EST is still in effect? I thought all the east coast is on EDT during the summer...

Perfectly right about the time, it is EDT here. I run an old RS 2026 full of low band frequencies right now, but the horiz. dipole I made to replace the vertical does not seem very effective. However there are other variables, like antenna height, etc.. I heard this traffic on a bc780 that I have about 200 low band freqs in. It was only using a Scantenna, which I find responds only to stronger skip signals.

I have heard many strange comms on low band during propagation events. I feel that this was probably a US Mil test. One thing I recall now is that Pres Kennedy said something about "the first hundred days or the first thousand days...." I think that made me think it was the inaugural speech, but I now would rather just safely say it was a JFK speech. Of that I am certain.
I think Jack Sullivan (if memory serves) was a leading lo-vhf mil guru. I bet if he is around, or if Tom Kneital was around we would know the origin.

God hunting, fellow low-vhf enthusiasts!
