President Bush West MI visit 9/13/04

The State Police were using Event02 Statewide, Talk group 1011.
to work security with the President.

It was all in the clear, no encryption.

Great monitoring from Muskegon to Battle Creek and it could all be monitored in Grand Rapids....

Oh well... he'll probably make at least one more stop in Flint to try and get the UAW on his side before election time.

Bush visit

Everytime I hear them on Event02 they are Statewide. i can hear them on the Mount Clemens Tower when they are on the west side of MI.

Event 1-3 are statewide, and pretty much when they are active, transmissions on these channels are heard over a very wide part of the state. Maybe even off all the towers at once?

I doubt they would send them to all towers... It seems I get statewide 2 a lot on Dimondale but rarely on Lansing, and I never recall hearing STATWD1 or 3 ever.

Event Channels

I think you will find that MSP Opperations in East Lansing Moniters some events and I'm thinking that they have an antenna pointed at tower 101 for some reason. I'v hird all kinds of state wide traffic on this tower for no reason except that MSP Opps is monitering and talking sometimes. MY 2 cents. Has anyone ID MSP East Lansing Opps. Transmiter ID numbers yet?

Since the radio people are at the secondary complex in Dimondale, I'll says odds are it is them monitoring the status of the event groups as needed...

The Dimondale and Lansing towers handle a lot of traffic I wouldn't expect to hear. One possible explanation is various agencies with people traveling to/through the Lansing area staying connected to their home office via MPSCS.

Not that they're necessarily "staying connected" but while they're here for training / meetings / etc. their radios are still going to automatically affiliate just like they do everywhere else and "draw" their talkgroups down... Makes for some interesting out-of-area talkgroups!
