Anybody else getting ready to listen in on the comms related to President Trump visit in Chippewa County WI Friday June 5th 2026?

Anybody have any preferred radio frequencies or systems to monitor?

I'm set up to monitor the WISCOM Systems, related Talk Groups and Sites, State and Federal Interoperability, MilAir as the Chippewa County Public Safety and City Systems.

As for equipment, I have an SDS200, 2 - "996's" a BC780XLT, Unication G5 and a few dual band analog HT's... Im close enough where I can monitor most systems in Chippewa County with the "back of the set antenna", however I also have two rooftop antennas, one a dual band J-Pole the other a 5/8 wave VHF ground plane.

I look forward to reading and sharing thoughts, statagies and recommendations...

Thanks for the heads-up Jim, I didn't know Trump was planning a visit. I have no strategy for monitoring a presidential visit. I have some scanners set up for milair but I'd have to scramble to get a strategy. I have some SDS200s also along with much older analog scanners and a few newer analog scanners.
I'm in eastern WI so my opportunities are more limited. I spent some time in Menomonie during a previous life and knew a few pretty girls from Jim Falls.
The Sentry North 2026 training exercise is happening at Volk Field too (6/1 thru 6/12) so it's a busy time for milcom in WI.
Good Luck!

Since the airport only has a runway that's only 7300 feet, they will probably come in the C-32A 757-200 aircraft. Listen to your VHF ATC freqs to hear Air Force 1 inbound. SAM 47 will land at a different airport as an AF-1 backup.
292.800 UHF is AF-1 & SAM 47 A/A.

Listen to your State Police system for the Motorcade after AF-1 lands. You should hear them shutting down roads before the Motorcade moves. Call sign might be MOTOR ONE & PILOT. The TFR starts at 12:45pm until 05:45pm. I have no idea what Talk Group?

Good morning...

I attached PDF's with WISCOM Site info and the Talk Groups that I'll be monitoring... as well as the many WIFOG and National/Federal INTEROP frequencies. A side note, for the past few days, I was seeing the "Site on Wheels" on my signal strength meter, but not this morning(?)

Marine 1 was flown in via C-17 Globemaster III earlier this week, so I'm thinking there won't be much of a motorcade to the Custer Farm from the Chippewa Valley Airport, if any.
Meanwhile, I'm hearing plenty... pilots inquiring about the restrictions, county deputies signing on for special dignitaries details, I just heard the "MARC1" repeater being enabled too...

They always bring MARINE 1. A couple HMX-1 freqs to listen for.
143.825 AM A/A.
273.950 A/A. There should be 3 VC-22 Ospreys there also.

Just in case you get a CAP.
260.900 HUNTRESS Prime.
288.900 HUNTRESS Secondary.
231.625 should be AR-Freq.

Runway 22/4 at KEAU Chippewa Valley Regional Airport is 8,101 ft. long. A Boeing 747 typically needs 8,000-10,000 ft. to land. Since 22/4 is on the short side of that, I'm not surprised that they didn't bring 27000.

Very generic question with a very generic answer: maybe.

A POTUS visit is a big deal with a lot of moving parts. It is highly dependent on the part of the puzzle you're asking about, locality of the visit, and a myriad of other details as to whether communications are encrypted or not. Some parts are always 100% encrypted, the rest depends.

As for yesterday's visit there were both secured and clear voice communications, as well as other communication methods utilized.

This is only a summary of Fridays monitoring of President Trumps event in Chippewa County WI on June 5th 2026
(Many Graduation Parties to attend this weekend, and I wont have the time to process the recordings and log data.)

I had set for myself 2 goals, I wanted to hear the radio traffic for the Presidential Motorcade and Air Force 1 radio traffic.

I did hear the Presidential Motorcade radio traffic when President Trump left the event. There were heavy thunderstorms in and around the Chippewa Valley Airport, it made sense that Marine 1 would be grounded due to weather.

I made an assumption that the President would be flying in Marine 1 to the event from the airport, and was focused on listening to air traffic and may have missed the ground radio traffic. I still need to go through the recordings, but I think I did hear radio traffic for the Motorcade going to the event amongst it all (maybe it was the press core?)

After President Trumps departure, I heard "FOCUS 62" and tracked the C17 Globemaster III using a free app "Flight Radar 24" ... I have many screen shots of FOCUS 62 and of Air Force 1 on route to Chippewa Valley Airport. A big Thank You to Chuck in Detroit for radio frequency information. I would have missed the air traffic without his timely information.

Other notes: I'm thinking there was a mobile "MARC1" repeater set up in the area near the event (probably associated with a mobile command post), I base that on the low signal strength, over the years I've heard many other MARC1 repeaters enabled (County Tower Sites) all with much higher signal strength. The MARC1 repeater was used for Motorcade radio traffic.

One thing I didn't think off when setting up my shoestring "fleet" of scanners, was when the 2 996's where connected to the laptop and desktop I wouldn't be able to hear what they were recording (and set up for logging), fortunately while testing on Thursday I discovered this and early on Friday, I had set up my SDS200 to be redundant so I could hear what the 996's were recording. As the old saying goes "the more you scan the more you miss" is 100% correct!

More later....

Thank you,

Jim
