While working outside today I was startled and impressed by a C17 at low altitude flying over my house. I live near the Groton/New london airport and I'm sure it was Biden's car, bodyguards, etc flying in for the upcoming Coast Guard graduation. My question is, is it possible to get advance notice of any really big birds coming in to the local airport? There is a park where I could have watched this plane pass directly overhead at about 100 feet while landing. I have 2 scanners that scan aviation (and other bands) and Flightradar 24 on my phone, but was caught flat-footed on this. Any way to get an advance notice?

Flightaware24 does not track most military flights and there is no arrival/departure boards for most military flights, especially the VIP transport flights. Some of the forums on RR will give a heads up for VIP flights but not the equipment flights. Best way is to watch the local news and they sometimes will announce it. ADS-B Exchange does track military and VIP flights, but doesn't post schedules in advance.

But, you are correct, tomorrow the President will travel to New London, Connecticut, where he will deliver the keynote address at the Coast Guard Academy’s 140th Commencement Exercises.

For advance notice of special or unusual flights check out Jet Tips

In all seriousness: FR24 is not going to help as they block many aircraft, especially "government/military" aircraft.

ADS-B exchange or use SDR to track them

Edit: I was beaten to the punch.

As a side note, look at the FAA TFRs for VIP NOTAMS. There is a good chance based on current TFR he will land at Quonset, Rhode Island

Yeah the TFR is centered on KOQU. There will already be some noticeable change in aircraft parking. When we had a presidential visit, there were numerous obviously related military aircraft (C17 included) on the ground two days prior to the C32 showing up. Considering I live in a very rural area, I don't know for sure but I suspect this is normal.

One or two days before look for aircraft with callsign of RCH###T, those are the equipment transport flights for POTUS, VP, State Dept brass, and foreign VIPs

An example of a RCH###T flight is RCH806T bringing equipment back from the Dearborn visit today, currently just south of Pittsburgh headed southeast, visable on ADSBx

Can anyone tell me how long the equipment hangs around after the bigwigs depart? Probably they leave the same day?

82-8000 ADFDF8 is SAM 28000 which is departing the area.

Anything related to executive airlift is most likely going to be MLAT instead of live ADS-B data. It's track-able, just slower.

ADSBx has MLAT tracking and is showing AF1 82-8000 which is currently off the coast of Toms River

Yep, just wanted to explain to our fellow users that may not possibly understand why the "aircraft isn't moving like the others."

Somewhat OT, I was watching 82-8000 on final to KADW today in ADSBx and the track went squirrely just before touchdown. Later, though, VENUS62 did touch-n-gos that were perfectly tracked. Does 28000 turn off its ADSB on final, is there a security measure being taken, or was this just a random failure in the ADSBx feeds?

No failure. It's likely VENUS 62's position was derived via ADS-B and 28000's via MLAT. You'll see this alot with military aircraft.

We need a wiki page on this subject.
