The President will be in town and the joint is jumping. Suggested listening:

460.250 (fm) CPD Citywide 6 detail
460.300 (fm) CPD Citywide 7 traffic management aides
462.975 (fm) CFD EMS command channel
123.025 (am) Chicago helicopter route traffic
260.900 (am) Untouchables Windy City Combat Air Patrol Primary via NORAD (Huntress)
350.325 (am) CAP arv/dep via Chicago Center
352.550 (am) CAP arv/dep via Chicago Center Kankakee
317.400 (am) Chicago arv/dep via O'Hare
126.800 (am) Chicago arv/dep via O'hare
142.750 (am) HMX-1 Helo squadron tac
265.800 (am) HMX-1 Helo squadron tac
273.950 (am) HMX-1 Helo squadron tac
361.600 (am) HMX-1 Helo squadron tac
390.900 (am) O'Hare Tower UHF

Expect nearly all of the Secret Service comms to be both fm digital (P25) and encrypted but you might try:

164.8875 Oscar - Detail
166.7000 November
166.5125 Sierra - WHCA
165.3750 Charlie
165.7875 Baker
165.2125 Mike
164.6500 Tango

US Coast Guard should be up along the lake shore, check the usual USCG channels. O'Hare and Midway airspace should both prove interesting, as well as the various trunked and comm systems at O'hare for field operations.

Let us know what you hear. Happy Scanning! - Ted

Will anyone be willing to stream some of this, or at least record and make available to us here in the south part of the state.

Caught the helo squadron on 273.950. I suspect the hornet lads were on Havequick. I worked on them for close to an hour with them overhead using 2 radios. Searched, scanned, signalstalker - zilch. Happy Scanning! - Ted

Don't forget to put 121.500 in. Cessna flew into restricted airspace around 10:30 AM and were contacting him on this frequency. I'm sure the pilot of the Cessna will need a change in diapers.

I seriously doubt the F/A-18s are part of it. They looked unarmed and second from several of the yahoo group milcom lists they have been using F-15E's out of Seymour-Johnson AFB, NC using the callsign RAMROD xx. Tankers using the callsign of ZOMBIE xx from various tanker units. Nice pics however.

I've logged most of the RAMRODs flying through ZID while commuting between the CAP and KGSB. Here are a few logs (most are from recordings, so sorry for the missing freqs):

5/29:
RAMROD 64 (x2 - 63 FLIGHT) - called Patterson Metro 344.600, not heard with ATC - RTB [numbers out-of-sequence]
RAMROD 45 (x2) - interplane: pushed to HQ aux, not heard with ATC - to CAP
RAMROD 43 (x2) 317.750 ZID > 353.525 ZID > 379.175 ZID - RTB
RAMROD 51 (x2) 307.225 ZID > 317.625 ZID > 323.050 ZAU - to CAP
RAMROD 45 (x2) 317.625 ZID > 360.675 ZID > 379.175 ZID - RTB

5/30:
RAMROD 53 (x2) xxx.xxx ZID - to CAP
RAMROD 51 (x2) 317.750 ZID > 353.525 ZID > 379.175 ZID - RTB
RAMROD 55 (x2) xxx.xxx ZID - to CAP
RAMROD 53 (x2) 317.750 ZID > 353.525 ZID > 379.175 ZID - RTB
RAMROD 61 (x2) xxx.xxx ZID - to CAP
RAMROD 63 (x2) xxx.xxx ZID - following ZOMBIE 28 to CAP, requesting MARSA
RAMROD 61 (x2) 317.750 ZID > 353.525 ZID > 379.175 ZID - RTB
RAMROD 65 (x2) 317.525 ZID > 317.625 ZID > 341.700 ZAU - to CAP
RAMROD 63 (x2) 317.750 ZID > 353.525 ZID > 379.175 ZID - RTB
RAMROD 71 (x2) xxx.xxx ZID > 317.625 ZID - to CAP
RAMROD 65 (x2) 317.625 ZID > 360.675 ZID > 379.175 ZID - RTB

5/31 (through 1700Z):
RAMROD 73 (x2) 353.525 ZID > 317.625 ZID > 341.700 ZAU - to CAP
RAMROD 71 (x2) xxx.xxx ZID > 360.675 ZID > xxx.xxx ZID - RTB
RAMROD 75 (x2) xxx.xxx ZID > 307.225 ZID - to CAP
RAMROD 73 (x2) xxx.xxx ZID > 317.525 ZID > 379.175 ZID - RTB [RAMROD 74 called Patterson Metro for weather at KGSB]
RAMROD 61 (x2) xxx.xxx ZID > xxx.xxx ZID > xxx.xxx ZID - RTB? [numbers out-of-sequence]
RAMROD 75 (x2) xxx.xxx ZID > 299.600 ZID negative contact, to xxx.xxx ZID > 379.175 ZID - RTB

P.S. - Indy 500 flyover brought five Hornets into town (one for backup)...all based at NAS Fallon, so the camo schemes might match up with the a/c in the picture.

The f/a 18's were in town for the chicago memorial day parade. There were three of them parked at Gary airport. There was also a few gulf streams and other "business" jets that were parked there that all seamed to leave right after the president left town. most of them went to the dc area
