Presidential Visit

It is reported that President Bush may be visiting Utah again this august. The visit looks to be about Aug. 30th for a convention. Also Sec. of State Rice will be attending. With is information it would be a good time to start getting informwtion for scanning the event and visit.

Here's a good place to start, a standard publishied list of frequencies but don't be surprised if you don't hear much, or if you do they will likely be encrypted.

You will likely hear more on UCAN and SLC PD/Fire from all the support comms.

On the president's recent visits to Philadelphia the following freq's were used.

There is likely a USSS freq for SLC that is not in the usual listings. It will be busy too.

164.8875 / Oscar.
165.3750 / Charlie
166.5125 / Sierra
167.0375 / Motorcade movements / security
172.900 / TSA at most airports

Note that all comms will go encrypted the day of the visit (except TSA) but 2 days leading up to it should offer some monitoring time in clear digital.

This is the week, and a busy one it will be. With the President and both The Sec. Of Defense & State all visiting. I plan to try scanning all the VECC Ops, Event channels. And Probaly do a open scan of the UCAN system. Today i will try to check the frequencies posted here as well. I am sure that the SLC Trunk system is going to be extremely busy this week with all the events in SLC. They will be dealing with some of the additional security aspects, motorcade route security. Another big part of the local efforts will be at the various Demonstartions that are being planned. So everyone get your scanners out, tune them in, and have a awesome week of scanning !

You might also want to make a check of any known ANG units in your area, and any known NORAD channels as well. It's quite likely there might be a Combat Air Patrol (CAP) placed over the area. It should indeed be a very busy week for your folks. Sounds like a multi scanner week, for sure. Good luck in the hunt 73s Mike

Here is my report.
SLC PD Motors was active with the Security at the protests. all of the Motor Squad, Bike Units, and the POU (Publice Order Units) Could be heard tracking the various protests as they happened. The same units also worked external security at the Covention Center.
SLC PD Tac 3 was active with security at the Grand America Hotel. If anyone had a chance to get down there you would have seen alot of K-Bar Barricades surrounding the property, and dozens of police vehicles.
Before the arrival and departure of AF-1 UHP was active with setting up road blocks and rolling slow downs. Airport Ops main was active with making sure the airport was in a lockdown mode.
Overall I had some good scanning, would like to of had more but it was better then nothing.

172.900 / TSA at most airports

I can confirm this is in use at SLC. It appears to be their main channel, though they call it "channel 7". P25 in the clear.
