Pri Channel Problem

When i have my scanner set to monitor the priority channel Which is the fire/ems paging frew 494.4375. It will check it and get stuck there when there is no activity on it and wont leave until i force it to.
Anyone else have or had this problem and how can i make it not do that?

While you really need to supply more information, such as scanner model, etc., I'd guess that the transmitter hangs on after the tones are sent. Either that, or there is some source of electrical interference in your area that holds the squelch open on your scanner. Do you have a different model scanner you can doublecheck the freq. with?

The scanner is a Pro96. when it stays put on the Pri Channel there is nothing there no noise or any other singals. It likes if the scanner freezes there. I dont have that Pri channel problem on my pro82. It doesnt do it
all the time just at times it will get stuck there.

OK, not familiar with the 96, so hopefully someone who is can help further. One other thing, does it hang on that freq with priority turned off? Oh, and have you tried it away from your regular scanning location, or with a remote antenna? Trying to eliminate a local noise source here. You might also disconnect the antenna entirely and see what happens.

in the regualr scan cycle it doesnt hang. Just when the pri is set on.

I can't account for why it would only happen while in the priority channel; however, if you have cable TV in the area, I would suspect a leaky connection somewhere since that frequency is in the video portion of cable channel 69.

Ah, different problem. I can only say mine doesn't hang on the Pri channel (unless of course something is there). I have not heard a lot of reports about this either.

Is there an over-the-air channel 18 in the area? 18 covers 494-500 MHz. Of course there probably isn't, since you have 2-way radio comms in the T-Band channel in your area.

Pro 96 Priority Channel

My Pro 96 will do that, too. If I squelch it a little more, it'll stop. Seems to happen at home more than on the road for some reason. I guess I always figured it was some type of interference.

Ok, thanks im not the only one with that problem then...I do tighten the SQ more and it stops it but at the same time prevents me from hearing some others that i normally listen go...And mine is mo0re often at home also when it happens...
