Price for digital scanners

Any reason why these digital scanners are so expensive?

Technology behind them?

I was looking at one (radioshack) and it was about $400

The uniden one was $499

Corporate Profits. Thats it. It probably only costs about 50 bucks or so to build these units.

Buy it used.. don't pay more than $300 for the pro-106 or its unidentified counterpart.
Got mine from eBay and there is new ones getting listed daily

Im gonna wait it out as long as possible and hope for price drops, here in NYC everything is still anolog and the nypd has an extension so I imagine I still have at least 2 years, no need for digital here yet.

I just picked up a BCD396XT for a good price. I think if you're considering going digital the 396XT is the way to go right now. At some point they'll stop making them..

I dont know about Missouri, but in NH, there are a few entities that use DUAL mode. Analog dispatch, digital response.. I have both digital scanners, and my opinion is that the PRO 106 is better for that function than the Uniden. Once you adjust the expert settings, your sensitivity goes up, squelch wait is down to 10, you are ready for all.. I got 2 entities beside me that use Dual mode, PRO 106 handles them perfectly--after settings are alterred... slightly

Not a bad unit. The sentinel software makes it easy to program

I know it is a little off topic but the cost of a digital scanner you can buy a brand new Motorola CP200d for the price of one of them. Just my thought.
