FWIW, I just received an email from Zip Scanners with a subject line of "Price Increase Coming Soon." Following is a direct copy and paste of the body of their email dated 04-08-2025:

"We want to give you a quick heads-up—due to U.S. tariffs on goods from Vietnam, we expect pricing on scanners and accessories to increase soon.

Many of our products are manufactured in Vietnam, and the new 46% tariff could impact costs across the board. We’re doing everything we can to keep prices low, but we strongly recommend buying now before any changes go into effect."

Zip scanners, you mean the same guys that have been selling Uniden upgrades nearly twice the price as Uniden?

Seriously, believe in the end these tariffs imposed on other countries will likely loosen up over time and be lowered.

And knowing zip scanners, they will most likely start charging more on stock they already paid for and blame it on the tariffs.

I would think if they are shipped as completed, packaged radios, they tariff would apply to the unit at whatever the cost to Uniden of everything, parts and labor. Uniden (a US Company) would not pay tariff on anything that was not paid in Vietnam costs. So if the radios cost $50 to manufacture and package, that would be what the tariff would be on.
Now, that would not prevent a company from claiming that they have to pay tariff on all of it and pass that alleged cost to the consumer. Also, as evidenced by the recent egg price gouging, companies will increase the price on "scarce" items (the chickens sure were not getting more money).

$200 X "whatever they want to charge" = "How bad you get screwed"

Bananas at the grocery store went up over 300%.
Wow. Too bad there is no viable way to stock up and store fresh produce long term. :)

The tariff is on the wholesale side, and the retailer marks up on their cost I don't know what Zip Scanners pays for a scanner now or what their mark up is

And it's not just tariffs. That's just the corporation's latest excuse to raise prices. If it wasn't tariffs, it would be weather-related issues, raising the minimum wage, COVID, supply chain issues, or whatever else they can think of.

And whenever the latest crisis-du-jour is over, the prices will not return to their pre-whatever levels.

We've all seen this movie before...

You can bet your bottom dollar some companies will take advantage of this to make a few extra $$.

Going by their upgrade prices, pretty safe to say mark up is hefty.
I could be wrong on this, but don't the manufacturers tell them what they have to sell the product for? I can't remember what the term for that pricing is. It's not MSRP. I believe that it is MAP pricing.

*MAP pricing stands for minimum advertised price
*It dictates the lowest price that a retailer can advertise a brand’s product
*Suppliers and brands use it to protect their interests and reputation
*Unlike MSRP, violating MAP agreements incurs legal punishment
*Retailers often circumvent MAP policies with various sales tactics

I'm not an economist either, just like @KevinC

Sigh- about a month ago when all the smart money took Hefty profits off the table at the height of the market.

Knowing April 2nd was coming.. tarrifs are devastating by design, it's funny that Vietnam of all places was the first to contact the White House and negotiate on Sunday.. they've got to. Now there's 70 countries waiting in line to "Make a Deal" or as I like to say "Kiss the Ring"

If the president gets enough good deals he says he's going to postpone the tariffs for a month giving time for everybody to negotiate a deal.

I guess everyone knows initially, interest rates on treasuries dropped,
price of a barrel of oil drastically dropped, that's nice and the markets have the biggest losses they've had in years. All I can say is.. buy, buy, buy at these ridiculous bargain prices of good stocks that sold off in a panic.

As far as the advertising at zip regarding increase in prices nothing yet indicates that that is the case when it comes to radios made in Vietnam. Negotiations are not over, A lot of European Goods now are being discounted to the United States.

We are not going to buy their products.. let's wait and see what happens before we start crunching numbers.

Let's see how other vendors handle their prices, but I don't think we should react to an ad like that. Be a smart shopper, we all are. Just be careful comparing prices are different vendors.

A little hint about zip emails, if you just erase them and don't open them you will get less from them. They know when you've opened it LOL.
