This is way to much money for a radio that is not only unsupported, but your limited to the last version of firmware that worked with Eric's transcoder. There are additional DMR improvements after ver. 3.8.

It just goes to show that people are willing to pay to get the extra modes, even if the radios will be stuck at firmware 3.8/DSP 3.0 for the foreseeable future. I wouldn't buy one to install Eric's fix unless it was dirt cheap, but already owning one of each, it makes sense to upgrade them.

I'd advise anyone who doesn't already own one of these models (or a PSR-800 for that matter) and needs these modes to pass on the RS/GRE scanners and look at a new, supported scanner from Whistler (or Uniden for that matter), which will have future upgrades and support.

Hello,

This seems worse as it is an even older model. Two sold for $450 already.
NEW Radio Shack PRO-18 Handheld iScan Digital Trunking Scanner P25 By GRE Grecom | eBay

But I noticed offers like this for a number of different radios, so it may not be due to added capability. Some old items have a premium when NIB, or some sellers think they do. Now if someone was selling a very rare DMR capable Pro-18 for $800, then I would consider it due to the added capability.

Do research on items at auction and keep watch for good deals.

Eric, thanks for your efforts with this. Reminds me of Linux philosophy, and you've started a new aftermarket cult ;)

Most pro-18 on ebay are way overpriced. Look in the classifieds here. I found one that was posted last year and the seller still had it available and sold it for $125.00 shipped and its a great condition. Doesn't hurt to ask :)

and yes now its converted into a WS1080 with v4.6 :D
