I just bought a BC246 from Durhamradio.ca, should be here in a few weeks because they sold out but I'm on the list so now I can look for some frequencies in the meantime. Does anyone know the frequencies/talkgroups for Prince Albert RCMP, EMS (<--most importantly) and Fire? I bought a BC60XLT-1 from Canadian Tire but took it back cause it was nothing like I thought it would be, the best it could pick up is CHECKER TAXI....anyway PA RCMP, EMS and fire would be much appreciated! I already know PAPD is digital so thats out of the question, I've looked through those 3 websites that do have some freqs for PA but nothing too special...Gateway mall security or any others would be fun too hahaha

Thanks in advance :)

I believe you will find that the prince albert police are digital on the provincial edacs system but you can easily listen to fire and ems and rcmp

Holy crap Peteman!!!

Good to see ya around.

The Prince Albert Police Department may be digital, but they are definately not on the Province wide EDACS system. I don't beleive this system is capable of digital comms. I've been monitoring this system for years and have not heard a single digital comm, or seen one with Etrunker.

The fire department are definately on Fleetnet. Eventhough they seemed to have dissapeared off system 1 ('cause I can't hear them anymore). I've been assured they are still on the system somewhere. The Talkgroup they use is 1829.

P.A. EMS, I'm not sure. I do know the surrounding rural areas will be on Fleetnet.

Richster.

Actually, the Fleetnet EDACS system is capable of digital, but only in the Prince Albert area. I don't think the system was upgraded anywhere else. PA Police were the only ones that used digital, and I'm not sure if they were really happy with it. It was a version of digital EDACS that pre-dates the Pro-Voice being used now. I don't even know for sure if PA Police are still on Fleetnet.

However, as Richster pointed out, PA Fire is on Fleetnet. The frequencies and talkgroups are in the Radioreference database, as was pointed out earlier. I think PA runs on System 1, but I'm not certain. Prince Albert EMS is on Fleetnet as well, but I don't have their talkgroup handy. Once you have the Fleetnet system plugged in though, it shouldn't take too long to find PA EMS.

The BC60XLT was $199.99  , actually I went on a couple ride-alongs with Parkland Ambulance and inside their garage they have a list of "confidential" phone numbers and what I thought were talkgroup numbers posted on the wall. I tried to look for the one that sounded like their most "main" talkgroup and did find one. 12912 was the number. Each person has their own talkgroup number and there is one for each ambulance plus some others I can't remember. The reason I did this is because I thought ONE DAY I would buy a scanner haha. Anyway I'm gonna go again with them someday for another ride along and I'll try to get the rest of the numbers, or most of them. If not I'll just park close to the building and try that new "Close Call" feature on the scanner...DAMMIT I can't wait till it comes!

P.S. Being that the number is 12912 what kind of system does that mean they are on?, pardon my newbie-ness and newbie-like questions....

The number you found was a "LID" number and not a talkgroup. Every radio on the entire Fleetnet system has a different number. With these numbers you can "privately" call an individual radio without the rest of the radios hearing.

If someone is running Etrunker on the system, this software displays both the talkgroup and LID (which is the Ericsson term for individual radio id), so it would be useful to an Etrunker user. However, if all you have is a trunk tracker scanner then no, it wouldn't be useful.

If you have the information, and wish to share it, then I would suggest you post a short message indicating it is available, and ask anyone interested to either email you direct or send a private message to you so you can send it to them directly.

That is most interesting and confusing at the same time. I'll get to that in a bit.

To add info to the EMS and their LID's. I have found out a while ago that when a particular rural EMS unit is bringing a patient to hospital, they communicate the particulars of that patient to the hospital via I-Call. Unfortunately the 245xlt will not follow these calls. Moosejaw EMS is the exception. They will actually patch 2 TG's together, both their's and Union Hospital then talk to Union Emerg using that patch TG. Now is that strange or what!

To get back to that confusing part , I looked up the Sasktel Fleetnet information for PA the other day and actually found that it is EXACTLY the same system as ours, using the same frequencies and LCN's. If they are actually on the same system as ours (system 1), how do we not hear everything PA hears, and visa-versa (ie. - PA Fire Department).

I will check to see if I have LID 12912 logged in Etrunker. It will be interesting to see if I have heard that unit all the way down here.

Mark you will love that 246T when you get it. You will be able to follow all I-Call traffic (LID's) on Sasktel Fleetnet. You will NOT run out of memory, at least I have never been able to do it here in Regina. Plus when you do get it, check the firmware version. If you have version 1.36, upgrade it with version 1.42 right away. The scanner drops I-calls with the 1.36 firmware.

There I think all my typo's and grammer mistakes are fixed! LOL.

This is what I have for talkgroups for PA

Fire - 14-045 I heard traffic on this one about a week ago

EMS - 12-142 Been a few years since I heard something, and that was only for a few days. Perhaps it was temporary??? I have not heard any other PA EMS comms for a long time.

Even though it is called "System 1", it is really a group of frequencies. The Fleetnet system is really all one system, it's just that they call the frequency groups "System #". For example, the first group of frequencies is called System 1. There are seven groups of frequencies in use at the Fleetnet sites.

The Fleetnet central switch controls where the voice calls will be heard. Generally, they will be heard at all sites where there are radios operating on that talkgroup. If there are no radios on that talkgroup at a site, the call won't be heard, in most cases. There are exceptions, most notably MD Ambulance from Saskatoon and PA Fire. They seem to be heard everywhere, at least most of the time, but not all the time. I'm not sure why those talkgroups get special treatment. I just consider myself lucky when I can hear MD Ambulance and PA Fire on the Regina site.

It also baffles me why Moose Jaw ambulance uses a system patch to connect their dispatch talkgroup into another talkgroup to talk to the Union Hospital. That seems to be a waste of system resources, a waste of the dispatcher's time, and it ties up the Moose Jaw EMS dispatch talkgroup. Wouldn't it be far more efficient to put their dispatch talkgroup into channel 1 of their radio, and the Union Hospital talkgroup into channel 2? Then all the medics have to do is flip channels on their radio. That's how Regina EMS does it on the Motorola trunked system. Makes sense to me, but...... that's what Moose Jaw does.

All of the rural ambulances (except Moose Jaw) use I-Calls to talk to the hospital when enroute with a patient. MD Ambulance in Saskatoon also use I-Calls when they are talking to the Royal University, City, or St. Paul's hospital.

MD Ambulance and Parkland Ambulance both use 153.5300 but when I had my BC60XLT I had that frequency as priority for a couple of days and heard nothing?? Also a few days before I even got the scanner I was listening to saskatoonscanner.com and heard a dispatch call from Prince Albert. I know that they often transfer patients from PA to Saskatoon so could it just be that the Prince Albert paramedics were in Saskatoon at the time and the signal just bounced from the PA paramedics radios to the MD ambulance's radios seeing that they use the same frequency? I also did a search for Parkland Ambulance here http://sd.ic.gc.ca/pls/eng_alpha/web_search.licensee_name_input and found that they have another frequency that they use "CANADAWIDE", does anyone know what that means?

P.S. Check this page out: http://spectrum.ic.gc.ca/tafl/tafindxe.html its like a government registration and listing of all non-protected registered frequencies in Canada!

Well that absolutlety confirms it then. MD Ambulance is using Sasktel Fleetnet. There is no possible way a VHF repeater (153.5300 Mhz) will make it all he way down to Saskatoon from PA. If VHF repeaters travelled that far, you would be able to hear all sorts of Saskatoon VHF traffic.

Beware of using the information downloaded from your last link you posted. The Licencee names are abreviated and/or cut short to save space. I tried to seach for a local cab company here in Regina using those files, and I could not find it because they cut off the licencee name. Your best bet is to use the online search on Industry Canada's website found here.

But why could I hear nothing on 153.5300 those few days I had the BC60XLT? Is it because they're trunked or is it because the BC60XLT is a ****ty scanner or both?

Neither MD Ambulance nor Parkland Ambulance are using 153.530. That is an old frequency. Since you found it in the Spectrum Direct database, it is still licensed by Industry Canada, but it is not used. Both ambulance services are using the 800 MHz Fleetnet trunked system for all regular operations.

It might be used as a backup in case the entire Fleetnet system crashed, but that has not happened. It's possible they've kept some of their old radios around just in case they lost Fleetnet completely, and if that's true then the old radios are probably gathering dust in a storage locker somewhere.

OK so if Saskatoon MD Ambulance uses the same frequency as Prince Albert Parkland Ambulance, does anyone know what the frequencies and talkgroups for Saskatoon MD Ambulance are?

Hi Mark,

Saskatoon EMS and PA EMS will be on the same system (Sasktel Fleetnet), but will have thier own talkgroups on the system.

I know Saskatoon EMS are TG 1661, PA I have no idea, but finding them should be very easy.

I checked Etrunker on that 12912 unit, and no I do not have an entry for that LID, but I did get a hit on 12913 back late 2002.

Regards,
Richster.
