Does anyone know rather or not I can scan all of the PWC fire channels or just the 5A (Dispatch Channel)? I currently have a station issued Minitor 4 witch is set (and only able to) monitor 5A and I have a few older (given to me by my dad/grandfather) scanners that can only monitor 5A and dispatch channels of other counties (Arlington / Loudoun / Fairfax / etc). I want to buy a new scanner so I can hear all of the radio chatter on not only 5A but 5B, C, D, etc (all of them even the training channel if possible). I have asked around my station and I keep getting told "no" because the county's frequencies are encrypted. So if anyone can give me a straight answer and even send me a list of all the frequencies that would be AWESOME.

Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew-

The county's system is digital but it is not encrypted for most traffic. If you get a digital scanner then you will be able to monitor all of the fire channels.

Thats what I thought but figured I'd ask a group of people who actually knew what they were talking about. Thanks and where can I find the frequencies at?

Make sure it is a P25 Trunking Digital Scanner, otherwise you'll be spending a few more $$$ than necessary in the next year or two. They will be upgrading like the rest of the region before to long.

Enjoy.

Ok so 1 more dumb question.....

How do I make sense of this Prince William County Trunking System, Prince William, Virginia - Scanner Frequencies ?

I have only programmed one scanner and it was programming Loudoun into one of my old scanners and I was given the exact frequency, I didn't have to figure out a "DEC" or "HEX" or any of that so if someone could explain to me how to put those numbers together I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Thanks,
Andrew

My best suggestion would be to start by reading the manual of the trunking scanner you are going to program. Hopefully the manual is written in a way that explains these types of systems.

No need to get smart I was just asking but I'm looking for some assistance thanks ....

You'll find there's plenty of help here on the board. Just start a new thread and the folks will be able to lead you in the right direction depending on the make/model of the scanner.
