The only complaint i have is if i'm on a departments talk group hold, ie: fireground, the bcd396t doesn't prioritize on the main fire channel and miss the main fire channel. would a firmware resolve this issue upman. by the way Uniden has been very good with upgrading stuff after listening to us about the scanners. we should thank upman for his input back to uniden. other than this small issue with trunked priority i love the scanner.

You would need two receivers to do talkgroup priority correctly. One to monitor your talkgroup and the other to listen to the control channel for your fire department talkgroup, so the 396 can not do this.

for the bcd396t scanner you do. both the bc250d and bc296d had the capacity to do such while one tg was on hold with the priority tg. I am aware that the bcd396t scanner doesn't do this priority scan in trunking. Is it possible for a future firmware to do such?

As Dave said, since you need 2 receivers to do priority in a TRS (or you have to be affiliated with the system), no software change can accomplish it. Priority monitoring in a TRS is always done via control signal, whether on the CC for a scanner or via the current talk frequency by sub-audible data for an affiliated radio.

Or just create a new system with just those TGs you want to hear at a fire scene. It won't be priority, but you will be able to effectively monitor more than one talkgroup.

I thought the 250/296 TG priority was no priority at all. They just looked for the 'priority' TG when evaluating the control channel before any other TGs. But if a non-pri TG was active, it wouldn't switch to a 'priority' TG.

785D Manual "With Priority ON, you can hold on an ID in your Scan List, such as Scan List 6, memory position 7, and the scanner will check all priorities in all the active Scan List in between any transmissions on the ID on which you are holding. The lowest numbered priority will be checked first. For example, Priority ID in List 1 will be checked before the Priority in List 2,etc." This is verified.

BCD250D too...

The BC250D also has a primary mode when the trunked id is held. Why would they not add this feature to this great scanner. Hopefully the new BCD...D something mobile/base will have this feature back on it and the screen mask as well.

OK. How does it work when scanning?

When you hold a trunked id and when the priority channel has traffic the scanner goes to priority mode and moves to that channel and your able to hear the monitored traffic when this mode is activated. I'm surprised that this option isn't on the BCD396T model as all the previous trunking scanners uniden has put out so far has this.

The trunked id has to be on hold for it to work. I myself usually use it during fireground operations. Thank god I mostly use the base station with the majority of priority issues.

Holding isn't scan.

Thanks, fmon. I didn't think it had priority scan on trunked systems.
