• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am VERY new to the G5 and LOVE it. I understand it's NOT a scanner but I'm one that has picked it up for just that purpose in my area. That being said I really do like the PPS interface for codeplug development and in some ways it makes more sense than programming a scanner even for scanning. My question is related to the priority vs non-priority groups when putting TG's into a z/k setting. I would expect that when receiving a TG in the non-priority group, if a priority pops up on air, it would immediately switch to that. Am I understanding that correctly? Is the order in the Priority group hierarchy also similar? Do the TG's to the top trump the ones lower in the list?
The reason I'm asking is our community has only 3 non-encrypted talk groups that can be monitored. I put them all in priority box they are constantly getting switched or seem to, mid sentence. I'm considering putting one in priority and the other two in non-priority so that I can make 3 knobs (one each for North South and Central as priority). That way I can set one to North priority (as example) and I would hear the traffic on the other two but I wouldn't miss anything on North. Am I understanding the concept properly.

Just wanted to make sure I'm understanding the concepts properly. I still have a lot to learn about the capabilities and how I can leverage it to the best ability for the use I have for this cool rig.

I believe that your understanding is correct, and your solution seems valid.

Yes, the TG closer to the top of the list, for a selected knob position, will preemp a TG lower on the list. That is if you have priority scan selected, while programming. (So if the 5th TG down is being listened to, and the 3rd TG goes active, the audio from the 3rd will be what you will hear.)
