The question:
I've got one narrowband analog frequency I always want the receiver to keep an eye on. If I'm VFO scanning or memory scanning, can the R8600 priority setting override what I'm listening to and jump back to the priority frequency so I don't miss an emergency dispatch?

The background:
Recently I joined up as a volunteer firefighter. Then I realized my pager doesn't get reception or hear tones in my office in the basement. So I'll be throwing up an antenna near the roof and was going to purchase a scanner for my car and my office - keep them scanning dispatch, and use a Motorola amplifier/charger for my bedroom.

But then all of this rekindled my radio interest - I still have an active amateur call-sign but haven't touched a radio in a decade. So I thought I'd drop some cash on a nice receiver instead of the camera I was going to buy and get into listening again. I'm in a rural area and with the exception of the state police, all the local PDs/sheriff, FDs, and dispatch are narrowband analog, something a receiver should be able to handle a lot. I thought, why not have the receiver listen to my dispatcher when I'm not playing around, and then as a hobby do some listening when I've got the time.

I know I could buy a scanner + the R8600, but if the R8600 can keep me alerted to activity on my frequency channel I'd rather just use one device if possible.

Thanks.
