If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a MTS 2000 Radio. When I program the radio and turn it on none of the buttons on the front work. Even though I have then enabled. Any suggestions?

What do you mean by enabled?

You can enable hot-keys and they will only work while the PTT is pressed.

If you're talking about using the buttons to jump to zones, set up scan, etc, then you have to program the radio for each feature and assign that feature to the button(s) that you want to use.

Hi. We have hundreds of MTS 2000 on a trunked radio system. We can program the keypad for whatever functions we want. We also program the the switch under the talkgroup selector as a
"keypad enable/disable switch" Even though the keypad is all programmed, it can be enabled or disabled with that switch. This keeps from accidently partialy activating the key pad.
Check all switch functions to make sure one of the switches is not programmed to disable the keypad.
Regards, Joe

Is it meant to be a keypad radio?

If it's an eBay special, care should be taken to ensure it's not a non-keypad model stuffed into a keypad housing. Wouldn't put it past them.

If you aren't 100% sure of the pedigree (origin) of this radio, provide the model number (H01... etc, about 12 chars) and I (and/or others) can tell you if it's really supposed to be a keypad radio or not.

No it was not bought off Ebay and it does have all the internal parts needed to be a keypad I looked up the model number and it works. If I erase the config of the radio and put my own in it works fine. However when I get a copy of my friends config the keypad does not work. The codeplugs and firmware are the same on both radios and I checked the button options in the RSS software and they are set to work just like his.
