    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is Motorola RAS similar to what Hytera calls Signaling Frame Encrypt in their repeaters and subscribers? (Did Hytera also copy RAS in addition to everything else Motorola sued them for?)

A key for Hytera's Signaling Frame Encrypt has 32 hexadecimal digits (128 bits). When programming a Signaling Frame Encrypt key in a Hytera repeater or subscriber unit, 32 hex digits have to be entered. Entering less than 32 hex digits causes the remaining least significant digits in the key to be padded with "F" to fill out 32 hexadecimal digits.

I have no idea. I have never played around with anything hytera.

RAS and AES. In the repeater, you can disallow radio ID ranges, so you can at least narrow it down a bit as well. Do this, and you'll be 100% secure, and nobody can access your repeater.
Except that MSI won't sell US customers AES unless they're "special". While RAS will keep out the pirates with their Chianturds, one will have to settle for "welfare" encryption based on well known and well compromised "enhanced privacy" based on laughable RC-4 cypher.

There is a local Cap Max that is AES encrypted not far from where I live.

I think that MSI is learning, that if they don't abide by their customers wishes, they will lose revenue. This system operator was going to go to Tait or Kenwood had MSI not played ball with AES.

This is Hytera's local access management screen in CPS.
Once the repeater is in hang time any ID can transmit through the repeater.

There is no equivalent of a MAC address so a user can duplicate an approved ID and get in.local access mgmt.jpg

On a Harris repeater one can use G-star for exclusive access to the repeater. Security is low as G-star can be decoded.
A DES decryption board would be needed for high security and then of course your DMR would need its level of security.
Means you would need DES encryption uplink.

DES is a broke joke. It does not provide any security, except to keep scanners from listening.
