Do these radios decode digital comms better and perform better than a gre psr 500/600? Or is it basically the same radio with a radio shack label? I'm trying to decide whether to buy another psr 500 or go with the r.s. model. Thanks for any input anyone can provide.

Like Hoser said the internals are pretty much the same.
I have not used the psr-600 but do have the pro-197,I love it.
I also have a psr-500 and a pro-106
the psr-500 is bundled with the ac adapter and prog. cable, those two items are not included w/ the 106.
The psr-500 and the pro-106 recieve the same.(my side x side testing).
The pro-106 in my opinion sounds richer & better than the psr-500 and has a little brighter of a display.
Also in my opinion the bottom of the case on the 106 is designed better ....the molded in feet extend
all the way to the front and rear of the case making it much more stable when set on a table or desk,
while the psr-500 is allot easier to tip forward or back.

I have both the PSR-500 and RS PRO-106. They perform identically side by side on digital decode and reception. I like the looks and feel of the PRO-106 better than the 500. Also, the 106 has a brighter display. However, I like the sound of the PSR-500 better than that of the 106. The 106 has a bit too much treble. No big deal though.

I have no idea if this is happening to anyone else but, i just bought the pro-197 and LOVE it so far except for one thing... When i am listening to what ever (public safety, air traffic...) the first 1/2 sec of the transmition sounds like it is VERY quiet in the background.

For ex. If a police officer is calling out it should go like this and i should hear this:

369, central
369 go ahead
so on and so on...

instead i hear

369 REALLY QUITE in the background,
and central at the normal volume i have it set at
and then the rest if the transmition is at normal volume.

its like im missing the first 1/2 of the transmition...

any idea? Please help!
