Hi,
I have a Pro-106 scanner and currently have a Diamond RH77CA antenna, and it does the job when I put it in certain areas of my house, but I am contemplating whether I should get an outdoor antenna of some type. Will this increase my reception with both trunking and conventional channels? Here is a link to the databases I am scanning currently:

CONVENTIONAL: http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=1784
TRUNKING: http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=1319

Thanks!

The RH77CA is about as good as you are going to find for a hand-held using the frequency range you're scanning.

If you want to put one up outside this should do the job, without spending a lot of money:

Radio Shack #20-176 VHF-Hi/UHF

Use RG6 TV coax and buy a Type F female-to-PL259 male adapter for the antenna, and a Type F female-to-BNC male for the scanner.

Okay, do you think I will get better reception with this? I am picking up the channels I need now so I may be better off keeping the RH77CA as my base antenna. What do you think? Thanks!

Yes is should work better, but it's possible you might even overload it. You know the old saying, if it works don't fix it!

By changing to an outside antenna you have the work and expense of putting it up. Then you might have concerns with lightning. Maintenance over time as well, but not very much with that setup. It would also tie you down to where you could use your scanner in your home, where now you have the freedom to move around.
