How is the availability situation with these radios? Still pretty hit and miss? The reason I ask is that I am headed to Florida on a business trip the 1st week of November, and I'm considering grabbing one while I'm down there (I will be in Boca Raton). I was planning on ordering a PSR-500 before I left, but now I'm waffling a little bit. $450'ish for a PSR-500, plus approx $50 shipping to Canada. Then taxes etc etc so I'm looking at 6 bills more than likely. If I grab a Pro-106 while in Florida for $499, plus a download cable (what do they run, $20 or so?) then I'm ahead of the game. Availability is my only major hurdle (plus, with my luck I'd likely find a store with the radio but nobody would have the USB cable for it).

Edit - I checked the Radio Shack store locator and there are no less than 14 Radio Shacks in the immediate Boca area. I suppose I could call them individually and see what their status is. Does anyone have the part # for the download cable handy? I believe the # for the 106 is 20-106.

Edit #2 - I found 20-047 as the stock number for the USB cable. Looks like most stores have them in stock. Now if the website would only show that the radio even existed!

Thanks!!!

yeh that 20-047 usb cable fits most RS radios, I haven't found the new 106 at any store yet, however Ive seen the 2055 closed out at $107 and the 2096's at around $279

Call one store in the area and have him check the district and region for availability. Get the tel # of the stores that have them. Call to verify availability, then go pickup.

Hope this helps.

Good luck let me know how it goes.
Youll probably be one of the first in the area to have a Pro-106.

Just watch the Currency exchange $499US = $588CDN today. OUCH

Yeah.... why is it the loonie tanks when I want to buy something, but soars when I don't? Go figure eh. Fortunately I'm hoping to have enough US funds available so I won't need to worry about exchange.

Well if you got enough US cash, or almost enough then no big deal. Converting $50 or so wont sting too much, but converting the whole $500 would hurt a bit

Then there is the 13% customs tax back across the border... well unless you by-pass that *wink*

Somewhere in Time....
Purchased mine last Saturday at a Radio Shack Store. In fact they had two. As of this morning the other was still available.
