So I have a digital 800Mhz truncking controll channel programed with wildcard talkgrops programed in and it is working for the most part! The problem is some times when it picks up a channel I can't hear the voices and before the freqency on the LCD it says VC but when voices come in it says DG. I have 4-5 bars of signal with the stock antenna so I got RS 800Mhz antenna and found it did the same but if I ATT the channel I only get 3 bars and it works better and I get DG almost all the time.

Why dose it do this?

Edit:
It also works better is some areas of the house then others.

I think I will post this in the Grecom Form alos as the PSR-500 is the same scanner.

No reason to double post, if you would provide more info on what system you are listening to that would help. I can guess it's probably a simulcast...

I am listening to a P25 Digital out of Joplin MO in Jasper County. The control Frequency is 856.4875. I don’t have all the other frequency channels.

I hope this helps

Please do not double post in another forum. I have removed the post from the GRE forum.

If you have the programming cable get the S/w for your radio & use your premium membership to import them automatically :)

No it is not encrypted because as I move around the house and have full 5 bars of signal the whole time the scanner will move back and forth between digital and analog while it is holding on the same frequency and I here voices on the DG still and none on the VC.

II did download it form here but the control channel was wrong her and so i just changed the control frequency and already filled out a Submit Info form at top of page. All the talk groups that came with the download are right.

I’m mostly worried the scanner may be broken in some weird way.

It's not broken, it's simulcast. Scanners just can't handle simulcast P25 very well, you can set up a yagi and point it in the direction of one of the towers and that might help. Or you have some type of interference nearby or in your house.

could be loose bnc connector inside the radio or on outside with the antenna

So does simulcast mean that there should be multiple control frequencies?
Or is it just mean that one control frequency with multiple towers not broadcasting in sequence?

I read the Glossary here but am still a little confused.

neither -- one control frequency with multiple towers broadcasting in sequence

If you happen to be between two of them and get the same signal quailty they will cause the scanner to have problems locking on to the signal. If the ATT is working that tells me you have some type of interference nearby house. It could be a radio tower, cell tower, or something else transmiting and overload the front end of the scanner. Does it work away from the house?

Eric,

Is Joplin going through reband at this time? If so, is the listed Control still working?

I have no idea if they are rebanding, and no the old control frequency does not work. I do know that about 1-2 years ago they upgraded to the digital p25 from a Motorola 800.

I have taken this scanner to my parents house and it works fine there. It is beginning to look like my house is just a bad spot. I plan to turn the power to the house off and see if it works better with all my stuff powered down. After all the help I received here I have a feeling that it is probably the 3 large towers that are less then a mile away that I see out my back window. :(

I've seen the same problem from time to time on my PSR500 and the 700 MHz system I'm listening to is not simulcast. My problem seemed to occur when using an outside antenna. Since Using the ATT improved your condition, I'd say it's sounds more like an overload desense problem. I had also thought when I observed the condition, it might be a problem with the scanner decoding the control channel. My problem with this condition seems to have disappeared on its own, so I have not seen the problem recently. I don't think any thing is wrong with the scanner.

Another thought. I assumed the scanner came with the latest firmware updated but I can't find how to check the current version on the scanner. I know from GRE that there appears to be 2 firware updates one CPU F1.6 and other DSP F1.3 When I turn on the scanner ther first screen flashes less then a second and I think it reads "DSP Boot F1.0"

This makes me think I need to up grade. But were do i get the upgrade I can't find one from Radio Shack either.

Press 3 after turn on for CPU & DSP App Boot will be listed also.

Firmware looks good. There are 2DSP firmwares appver is1.3 and vocver is 1.0. So much for that idea.

So I came up with something else to try. If it is a tower causing interference if I drive closer to that tower would it make my problem worse?
