Here's a great way to have a handstrap on your 106 or similar scanner!

Take your belt clip off

Drill a small hole into the belt clip along the side (does not affect the integrity of the clip) small enuogh to fit the loop of the handstrap through.

attach the handstrap lanyard to the beltclip. then put it back on the radio.

simple and safe.

it's a great way to carry the radio and will prevent dropping it easily.

I have been thinking the exact same thing !!! My concern is the fact that it's a slide-in clip...it just doesn't seem secure to me at all. The screw-in clip is way better. My suggestion if you drill the hole is use some wet sandpaper to smooth out the edges of the hole as this may wear away at your lanyard, eating away at the threads will cause it to fail. I wish it had a double screw clip like many scanners from the past.

You're correct. The screw in belt clips seem to be much more secure. However, with the 106, the existing belt clip is what we have to work with. I can personally vouch for PRO93BOB's suggestion. Use a clean, sharp drill bit. The sandpaper idea can only help.

Do screws really cost anything? The slip on clips really are worthless, unless the case is made of polycarbonate, and the clip is really heavy duty. I have a couple on my ham HTs that are rock solid, but I still like the 2 screw clips better as just about any clip can be modded to fit any scanner. I made one for my Pro-96 right after I got it.
