It would be nice if the Pro-106 talkgroup priority would work when the scanner is in manual mode, as sometimes I like to just listen to the E.M.S. TG, but would like for it to have the FD dispatch set to priority so it will change over when there is a dispatch. As the way it is now priority only works when in scan mode. I'm sure this could be resolved with the next firmware release..;)

When in manual mode, you're monitoring exactly one thing (talkgroup or conventional channel). Other priority objects have no effect, since the scanner doesn't look at any other objects.

Thanks Don, I did realize this, but I guess I was hoping it could be taken into consideration in a firmware update. Just got the 396XT and it works like this...

Does the 396XT work like the PRO-106, or does it do priority TGs in "manual mode"?

If the latter, I suppose GRE could dumb-down(*) the PRO-106 to only handle a limited number of talkgroups on a system, but I don't think that would be a good compromise for "getting priority TGs in manual mode while sitting on one TG".

*To me, it seems like a bad idea to limit the number of talkgroups in a trunked system by anything other than a) memory space or b) max talkgroups in a system. I hope GRE never does this again.

It's looking at the control channel, which has many, many things on it.

If the TG trunks out then the scanner can still see the low-speed TG data. So I don't see why the scanner can't do it.

Even though we gain TG priority mode the newest GRE line is like two steps forward yet one back since you lose the ability to use priority anything when in MAN mode. I would have liked to have kept the 96's ability to have priority in TUNE, MAN, etc.

Because, as I said above, it's not looking at any other objects (i.e. any other TGRP objects you may have programmed for that TSYS). Without looking at any other TGRP objects, the scanner doesn't know if any of those "many, many things" on the CC are flagged by you as "priority".

The only time the scanner looks at more than one object is in SCAN mode. This is the same as recent GRE scanners (their only "priority" mode was a single, dedicated "Priority frequency" not associated with any user-programmed "channel").

Don, I understand this. My point is that it would be a trivial software add to permit Priority Monitor while in MAN or PSE mode. It's all there, just gotta tell the scanner what to do. Maybe GRE will consider this.

Checking enabled objects for "priority" while scanning + paused would be trivial. Adding such priority checks while in manual mode would be far from trivial.

Wayne_h lets hope someone from GRE is reading, and they take what we are asking into account...

"GRE" has been reading, participating, and trying to explain why it can't be done (where "it" means "checking priority objects in Manual mode").
