pro-106 problems

was on forum several months ago still having reception problem with p-25 can recieve Gwinnett fire some clear and some a little garbled, programmed Dekalb county little clearer and Hall county a lot clearer. does this sound like antenna problem have a 800 on it. % on gwinnett is low around 35% to sometimes 70% but drops. any one in Gwinnett County Georgia have a pro-106 that picks up clear? get in touch if you do, no one knows anything about this scanners please send thread with e-mail address thanks rrengineer

All three systems are 800 MHz simulcast systems so the 800 MHz antenna should be OK for it. What's probably happening is your experiencing issues with simulcast distortion (Simulcast digital distortion - The RadioReference Wiki from the RR WIKI may help explain what's going on). Often the solution to the problem is to either isolate a single tower's signal (using a directional antenna like a Yagi) or reduce the signal strength so your scanner can more easily pick up only the strongest of the simulcast signals.

Yes, I know that this sounds wierd, but in this situation, less signal is better than more signal. Another funny thing about this problem is although you may have too much signal, the symptoms make it appear that you're getting too little signal. What's happening is that your scanner is trying to decode the signal from one tower while the signals from the other towers are mixing with that one and distorting it, perhaps even canceling it out enough to prevent your scanner from properly decoding the signal.

Also try looking at the easy reading manual where it talks about optimizing scanner parameters, there may be things in there will help you.
