Since RS is having a possible sale on the pro 106, I am thinking of buying one. What I would like to know is can the pro 106 receive and scan a rebanded system with its current firmware right out of the box or does it need to be updated? Thanks for the info.

So far as I am aware, it will. Updating the DSP and CPU is fairly straight forward but does require a cable (and a PC). If you've got a tech savvyShack nearby they may do the upgrade for you.

"Tech savvy shack" LOL good one. Back to the original question yes I think any firmware version of the 106 will work on rebanded systems.

The upgrade of the firmware eliminates mirror images and adds patch support. So for example lets say fire department needs to talk to the police they can do that by being patched on the same talkgroup. you will know if they are patched you will see on the PRO 106 ptch showing at the middle top right area. :D
