The RS deal on the 106 looks promising. I've thumbed through the PSR 500 manual online, several times and a question or two comes to mind.

I currently use a 396T as my primary scanner. As an example, my Federal frequencies (Conventional) are divided in groups (FBI, DEA, etc.), which can be enabled/disabled with a single click, and any frequency within the group can be locked out as desired.

Unless I missed it, it's my understanding that each frequency (object) would have to be enabled (unlocked)/disabled (locked) individually.

Does the DUPE function apply a 'group' status to objects created with it, where all objects could be enabled/disabled as a group?

I like the idea of scan lists, with the ability to assign objects to multiple lists, but since I spend a good deal of time monitoring the Feds, and if my assumption is correct, having to 'handle' each object individually would seem burdensome.

Hope someone can comment on this.

On the PRO-106 individual objects are assigned to scanlists. While you can think of a scanlist like a 'bank', you can assign a object to multiple scanlists. The scanlists can then be turned on or off like 'banks' in older Radio Shack scanners. I got a 106 a couple of months ago and am also still learning- the articles here on RR are a great addition to the manual.

Have fun

Thanks for the reply, but perhaps I wasn't clear. I've been into scanners over 30 years and am well familiar with banks, trunked systems, and understand the concept of scanlists.

What I am asking deals primarily with Conventional frequencies. My county (other than 2 municipalities) is all analog conventional.

With my 396T, I have all of the frequencies (Police (local), Police (county), EMS, Skywarn, etc., as a 'county' system , all of which, can be enabled/disabled with 1 click. Within the 'system', the various functional groups consisting of 1 or more frequencies, are arranged in groups, each of which can be enabled/disabled with a FUNC + click.

In my trunked systems, the TGs are arranged in groups, such as Police, public works, admin, etc. The groups can be enabled/disabled as above, and of course, everything can be dismissed with 1 click.

With regard to the PRO-106, if I had say 6 frequencies belonging to the FBI, I could assign them to a scanlist and this would allow all to be enabled/disabled as a group, or individuals to be locked/unlocked. Likewise, I could do the same by creating 1 or more 'lists' of TGs belonging to a TSYS.

While I usually scan up to 3 or 4 systems simultaneously, if I wanted to arrange things as I have indicated, I would quickly use up my 21 scanlists.

I may be all wet, but I'd like someone to clear this up for me.

Thanks.

You can assign (program) any conv-TG to any ScanList (bank) , turn it on or off individualy or turn off the whole ScanList...The working pad you use holds 1800 objects (Freqys or TG's) and you also have the "Favorites List", the "Skywarn" list which are also ScanLists, then you have 20 other V-Folders that also hold 1800 Objects (Freqys-TG's), so this is just like the 396T which has many SYSTEMS that can be programmed...Both are one hellof a neat radio and i like my 346XT and 396XT better than the 396T with many new great features.....
