Just a WAG - Did you check "Extra Write Time" under the serial port configuration settings?

I had the same issue with the 500 about a year ago. I had to choose comm port 10 even though I dont have one on my PC. I have 1-5!

i tried com port 10 no luck same with checking extra write time and rts line high. i have tried every combination of checking the suggested items. keep getting time out error message.

com 3 is the only comm port that flashs the 20-047 cable interface.

tnxs for the suggestions. open for any others.

Have you tried a demo of something else like ARC500 to see if the cable is working?

If you are using the little pig tail on the cable take it off and try again. I did this yesterday and had the same issue once I removed the pigtail adapter that I use on my 2096 it ran on com 4 just like the 96 did.

first of all tnxs to everyone who gave me hints to solve my problem. got it to work finally!! used com port 3 and checked extra write time and enable read back tests.

believe main reason i got it to work is that i removed the extra extension cable that came with the radio shack interface cable part # 20047. i used it to get the arc433 software to work with my radio shack pro-433. seems like i do not need it to get the win500 software to work with the pro-106.

hope the above info will help any one else that gets stuck like me.

sorry did not see your reply to my problem. yes, you are correct the small extra cable was the problem.

tnxs for verifying the solution. tnxs

The problem with me was that with using the Radioshack USB adapter, I had the little 5" adapter connected which was needed with the PRO-96, however you need to remove that for it to work with the PRO-106.

EDIT: I see you already figured it out :)

also does the scanner need to be in a particular mode?
