TNNewbie here--again.

First, I want everyone to know that Kevin went out of his way to offer his help with programming my 106. He is an incredible guy. I've never encountered anyone so willing to help someone he's never even met.
THANKS KEVIN !!!!!

The good news is that I FINALLY got conventional frequencies to work!. If the manual had just dropped some hints about a couple of settings that I happened to stumble across last night, conventional programming wouldn't have been nearly the ordeal it was. But. like someone on the RR Forum said, the more you work with the scanner the more you learn about it. Indeed, I've learned a lot about my scanner just by chasing conventional programming. I did get very frustrated many times, but everyone on the RR kept telling me it could be done and offered excellent advice. Sure am glad I found this forum ;>)

I'm more addicted to this thing than ever since I can now listen to metro police, local police, local sheriff, local Fire and EMS as well as surrounding city police, EMS, Fire, etc.

Stay tuned, without a doubt I'll be posting more questions as I dig into the scanner more and more now that I've got conventional frequencies to work. Need to figure out exactly how I want to set it up to get the most out of it.

Got to go listen to my scanner :>)

Later.

topcat, you should use this link Radio Shack Scanners - The RadioReference.com Forums go here, and post your specific question... give details, leading up to where the stumbling block is. There are many RR members who will be well suited to help and support you if you address the problems your facing in the specific forums. So use the above link (Radioshack Scanners) and write down what your doing so everyone can help you. They will get ya thru it pal. Take care, Kevin.

Topcat60,
Hey, believe me, I feel your pain! Like you I've read the manual over and over, but still "don't get it". Personally I haven't dealt with Talkgroups. Maybe I should? I noticed that
Kevin responded to you, he is the guy who was such a huge help to me. I agree with him, just post your specific situation and believe me, someone will respond with a solution. Everyone on this forum is great, very willing to assist.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I read the GRE 500 manual for a year and didn't get it:) Bought the 106 this past November, Had Win500 and PSREdit500 on the pc. Tried to figure it out by looking at the software. Lots of brain fxtrs;) Realized that I could import my 96 into the software. BING! Lights went on in my head. Loaded the file into my radio. It worked! I saw how object numbering worked, how the system frequencies used only one object number and the TG's others. Each conventional freq had their own. After that, started playing with all the other goodies that the software and the radio do. I have made new files for the radio simply by downloading the conventional and trunked frequencies from radio reference. These radios are soooo different than bank operated radio. Lots of button pushes to get something programmed, yes I learned how to do it by hand:)
Wouldn't want to program all that I listen to by hand. I'd get hand cramps if trying that. Get the software on a trial basis and download some frequencies into it. It will make more sense.

Larry

topcat60, you do not indicate if you are using software or not. For the Pro-106 I would suggest WIN500. Here is a help file I have posted on an independent Wiki that may help you populate your scanner with TGs.

Hi, I PMed topcat, to have him call me on the PX. He called me a short while ago... he is using PSRedit500 software on his 106. I spent about an hour or so on the phone w/ him, walked him thru his problems, and now he's good to go. Thanks all for the help everyone showed him... he's up and running now. :) and he's happy.

pro 106 reception

Here's one that I can't quite figure.

My pro 106 misses transmissions when ther is an exchange of conversation on the same channel that my 396T doesn't miss. Can't quite figure which modification to make in ARC500 to make the pro 106 not miss portions of the dialogue exchange. Tried channel delay time (2 sec for both units), tried ENDTONEMOT but that field resets to 80 when i save the profile or try to download to the pro106. The expert settings that came with the unit show 250 as the defualt for ENDTONEMOT but can't save or download at 250 because the program swithes to 80. would this field make a difference? It is described in the manual as, "The motorola 3600 ent tone number of bits required to mute at then of signal" -- I thought maybe based on this description it would pick up more conversation with a higher number, but don't know.

Changing the low threshhold level from 75 to 35 helped the pro106 pick more on this MOTII pinellas system than before at 75 where it missed quite a bit that the 396T picked up. At the higher low threshhold level the display would show a channel and light up, but there would be no voice processed. That issue improved with a lower low threshhold level.

I'm sure all these systems are different. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
