1. allows just lcd to light up -not keyboard. this will save batteries. easy to change and extends battery life.

2. will allow you to scan favorites and skywarn objects . =more coverage of your important channels. basically adds "banks 21 & 22" to your normal scan instead of normal 20

my 5 button combination adds favorites and skywarn "banks" to the normal 20"banks" to be 22 "banks"

you can still press favorites and skywarn to just scan them only.....

my way you get more coverage of your important objects.

has anyone else done this?

I like this feature

thanks mike!

I started this thread to generate tips due to new users getting 106's for Christmas.

I figured the rr experts would chime in to pass on little tips that they use.
most googled items talk way above the general scannerist.

a lot of people don't even know what'73's are lol. so calibration of signal strength or rssi is a leap when the jargon or electronical dialect is enormous lol

saving battery life and etc.. are basics and may fuel a lifetime hobby.

so does anyone else have tips for the pro-106

thanks for the all the help
and by no means am I expert - I respect rr

Actually, the "default scan list" menu item allows you to dictate where the scanner will store all new objects created by you (or found while searching) by default, or automatically.

From the manual:
Setting the Default Scan List
By default, your scanner will store all new objects, and objects found during Search, Tune, and Stalker as mapped to Scan List 01.
You can easily change the default Scan List to any Scan List you specify, including the special FAV and Skywarn Scan Lists.
So if you want to scan your FAV scan list, you indeed need to push FAV on the keypad and it will only scan that favorites list. Same thing with the skywarn list, activate it by pushing FUNC + WX and it alone will be scanned.

I didn't want you to think you're scanning freqs when you're not...that's the only reason why I thought I'd correct you but appreciate you trying to be helpful. ;)
