Hello, all. I have been debating on purchasing a PSR800. I currently own a Pro 106. So, I have some questions to folks that may currently own both radios. I’m simply looking for raw comparisons, and suggestions. These are the areas I’m curious about. Again, I’m just seeing if it is worth getting one right now, since I have my 106. As always, thanks for the help.
Audio – How does the audio compare to both radios, as in clear audio, volume, etc.
Battery Life – On average, how long do your batteries last?
Digital Signals – How well would you say that your radio decodes the digital signals? (Yes, I know areas vary, but I’m asking folks that have both radios)
These are pretty much my concerns, any others are more than welcome. Overall, how would you rate your 800 compared to the 106?

I own both radios - here is my opinion:
Audio - better on the Pro-106, but not tremendously
Battery Life - Pro-106 wins on this one. I use rechargeable s in all my radios, so I don't mind as much that the 800 'drinks' them much faster
Digital Signals - I don't hear any difference - after all, they are both GRE Radios. The digital signal on both is much cleaner than my Uniden HP-1, although the HP-1 is not terrible.

Other than the differences above, I honestly find myself using the 800 much more than the 106. The 106 is great for front panel programming, but I usually use the software to update it anyway. I've been scanning for many years, and believe it or not, I am tired of having to key stuff in (sign of old age!). I find updating the 800 much easier as well, and better to travel with due to the zip code feature. The 800 is also smaller and has more sturdy feeling (in my opinion only).

Bottom line, your enjoyment will depend on your preferences - keypad vs. no keypad, battery life, cool factor, etc. They are both great radios and I wouldn't part with either one. As they say, you can never have enough radios!

psr-800.

unless you want a bulky radio and a keypad go for the 800.

owned bcd396xt, pro-106 and the 800.

I cannot give up my 800 for nothing until the next iteration of it comes out.
