I'm considering the PRO-106 instead of GRE PSR-500.
I'll have to pay extra for the USB cable.
However the most important question is whether I can use the firmware updates from GRE site or not?

No you can't update the 106 with GRE updates, but they will be available on radioshack website for the 106 when they are available. Currently the 106 has the most recent update.

The updates for the 106 you'll get from the RS site, not GRE.

Just ot make it clear - right now RS106 comes with the same 1.6 version?
Is the scaner the same as PSR-500 in terms of menus and operation (including the PC control software)?
Another words what's the difference besides the RS logo?
I had a PSR-500 but never saw the RS 106

The only real difference is the layout of the front panel... Internally they are identical as far as programming and control is concerned. And yes, the Pro-106 has the latest Firmware from the factory.

The Pro-106 is currently on sale for $399. The Radio Shack website shows the sale going until 3-28. Awhile back someone mentioned a coupon "20STUFF09" for an additional $20 off. I don't know if the coupon is still good.

The sale price more than makes up for not getting the cable for free

the power cable which will run about $20 and the usb able for about $25 to $35 you have to get when you go the Radio Shack. Plus tax
I have seen the GRE for as low at $450 on some wesbites.

Well, NONE of the RShacks in my area have them, so I guess I'll stick to GRE...
