Does anyone know if the Radio Shack Digital Scanner PRO-106 will work here in Albuquerque? Since Radio Shack is selling this radio for 249.99 thu 12-11-10 -- I figured it would be a bit cheaper than getting the HomePatrol unit for 500.00 or more.

If your question is if the Pro-106 will decode Provoice that ABQ uses, the answer is no. There is not a scanner on the market that will decode it. If your interested in only monitoring APD/AFD dispatch, any EDACS trunking will work, however, if you want to hear both sides, I would advise you to monitor APD/AFD online. The radio works great for monitoring everything else.

Okay I kinda figured that, thought it was to good to be true. So i guess asking if the Uniden Home Patrol Radio will work on provoice is probly a waste too?

It is a valid question, but the answer is the same as the 106. Everyone should thank Kevin for providing the online feed!

Your Question :
Hello,
I want to know since I cant find info anywhere, if the homepatrol scanner will work in my area, Albuquerque, NM - Police, Fire, Rescue uses the following:

System Type: EDACS Networked Standard
System Voice: ProVoice and Analog

I'd like to know before I spend over 500 $ on this unit.

Thanks
Mike S.

Our Solution :
Thank you for using our system.

The software has the system information in it and it does appear to be a standard EDACS systems that is covered by the HomePatrol.
Sincerely,

They are somewhat correct. Any EDACS capable scanner will monitor the Analog side of the system, but since all of BCSO is digital, as well as the units in the field for BCFD, APD, and AFD, it still will not monitor +85% of the system. If you would like more information about Provoice, look to our wiki...

Thanks - I did look at Wiki and it said something about Provoice software. Couldnt that be added to the software of the radio in question? seems it would be a easy fix

No, software can not be added to a scanner. Scanners are not computers that run operating systems that allows users do download software for them. The software the wiki page is refereing to is called DSD. It only runs on Linux OS's as of right now.
