Bought a pro 106 tonight to add to the collection got it home put batteries in it turned it on got a heap error code. I returned it to the shack amd I'm having one shipped to the house

That's more likely to have been a programming problem, not an actual defect in the scanner itself. See this Wiki page (toward the bottom), also this thread.

Thanks but as soon as I turned it on It showed the error message and froze no matter what buttons I pushed

That is correct. I have done that to my PSR-500 twice. When you upload proper programming, everything is fine.

That's exactly what happens when programming is faulty.

Either a corrected programming file uploaded to the scanner, or a complete reset, (0-1-enter at the welcome screen) will cure that error message instantly every time!!
