I just picked up a Pro-107 and have a SD card question. Will the 107 accept SDHC cards? I was also wondering since the radio reads the database from the card, would there would be any benefit to using a much faster card, instead of the included stock one? Thanks...

Yes it will, I tested with a SacnDisk 4GB SDHC. I do not see any difference. Looks like the scanner loads the scanning information into memory and work from there and only accesses the SD care on startup, sacing configuration, and when updating scan lists.

Any SD Card will work, as long as:
* it uses 512-byte blocks (I've never seen a card that doesn't, but the SD spec allows other sizes)
* it's formatted with either FAT16 or FAT32, with 32kB clusters
I've used cards from 512MB (FAT16) up through 8GB (SDHC, FAT32).

The SD Card is accessed all the time during normal operation. About the only times it's not read and written are when you're sitting in a menu or you're in a Search or Weather mode.

Thanks. I wasn't sure since I had cameras that would not work with certain type SD cards. Have you ever noticed any benefit from high speed SD cards?

pro-107 SD CARD?

I have a pro-107 and the card must be bad, the display shows fatal error. I checked with radio shack and can not buy a new card through them. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to purchase just the card?

Well you *could* use for favorite search engine - and I'm sure there are folks here who would recommend a particular distributor (a big hint here) - or you can go to a CVS Pharmacy that has a photo shop. I've seen SD cards on sale there from 2 such stores in the DC metro area. It would at least get you over the hump.

I also seem to recall that there has been some observations that Windoze doesn't always format a SD card correctly. From your message it's impossible to determine if you did this; our FAQ has a link from the SD Association for a utility that reportedly works properly (note: all links - here and in the wiki - are blue)

best regards..Mike

I could be off here since I don't have one of these radios, but the RR data is stored in the scanner memory, and the SD card is used to hold whatever it is you wish to monitor. If this is so, you would need to format the SD card, make sure the radio recognizes it properly then use the software to copy data.

Is my understanding here off, folks? I'm trying to think in KISS mode here...best regards..Mike

[edit] Come to think of it, this is a question that has come up in the past- I think a writeup of the exact procedure, step by step, that we can add to the FAQ would be very useful. It would, in fact seem to be similar for all of the OO scanners that use a SD disk...it would certainly help newcomers. If someone were to write this up in Word I have a converter which will change it to MediaWiki....

The database is stored on the SD card, but can be updated using the PC program that comes with the scanner. Put the SD card in the computer, and use the option to Prepare the card for use. Under the Update menu is an option to download the latest library database and copy it to the SD card.

Pro 107 SD CARD

Can anyone tell me if its possible to add the Canadian portion of the RR db to the SD card..Also having a problem with the scanner not having a "FlexStep" Or Canada/USA selection like most other GRE radios have. Iam trying to listen to a System in Ottawa Ontario Called Fleetnet Zone 2, Its a VHF multi Site system using Motorola Smart Zone Type 2. I fooled the radio into allowing me to enter the Control Channel or 142.830 and it seems to follow the system, but its recieving .25 KHZ off frequency.. I work ok because im so close to the tower, but when I get further out, reception is awful..

SD cards available

A new SD card be ordered at a Radio Shack store by ordering from RSU (Radio Shack Unlimited) parts.
Ask the store manager or a properly trained sales person to brings up the parts list for the Pro-107 scanner.
On that parts list will be the RSU part number for SD card (data pack). The SD card will come preprogrammed with the complete frequency library.

What is stopping you from buying your own SD card for $6 and putting the database on it yourself?
