Pro 160 On The Radio Shack Website

Anyone know if this is a good scanner? I'm looking to buy an analog scanner that will scan Arvada/Westy PD & FD, RR, RTD, Moto Type, LTR and Conventional Freqs.

I compared it to the Pro 163 and they are pretty similar. I like the bigger display on the 160. The 163 is triple trunking, I dont know if that makes a big difference.

At the moment Westy/Arvada is EDACS standard however it is out there they will opt for ESK. If that were to happen the scanner would not track their system..

The only Motorola analog systems in the area are United Airlines at Denver International and Lockheed-Martin's 900 system at Waterton.

LTR standard systems should work fine with that model.

Hmm. I didn't know that about Arvada/Westy. I think I'll keep using my old Pro 2052 for now and buy another Pro 197 when they go on sale again. Hopefully RS will have a Fathers Day sale on scanners.

What did you say Scanlist? Arvada/Westy "it is out there that they will Opt for ESK" Well Scanlist its been 5 months and the Pro-160 I bought for Dad is working perfectly. As a matter of fact one of my good friends from High School works for Arvada PD as of June '09 and in conversation he said they have never put out there that they are going to opt for ESK in the future. Can you provide a valid resource for your statement or are you talk out your @"" because they are analog like Wheatridge/Lakewood and its seems logical to compare the two? Readers Digest and your AARP newsletter dont count as a resource either.

Why does it seem like everyone is out to attack Phil? You asked the question and he gave you a valid response, in which he has knowledge of. I don't think that attacking him will get you any other "great" responses. Yes they will follow ESK just like the rest of the Metro area, eventually. If your 2052 still works, then great, keep it. Just don't go attacking people that give you info that you apparently don’t want to hear.

You're just throwing it out there too by saying they will follow. Where are your resources? How do you know they will move to ESK? I just can't stand people that throw words out with nothing to back it up other than guessing or assuming. What good are these forums if they're full of a bunch of assumptions rather than facts? If a year goes by and they haven't moved to ESK, I'll remind you then too.

Hmm, an officer you know that has been with APD since June 09', I wouldn't call very credible. Think what you want, I have credible sources that maintain their system. I would highly doubt that a new officer of one month has any idea of what their radios are even capable of, nor has any inside facts. Phil, I think its time to bring out the "Ah geez, not this S*** again!."

Wheatridge/Lakewood is on an ESK system. 160's do not TRACK Lakewood.

A private SMR company maintains the Westminster TRS. There are limited pro-voice groups on the system and the system is pro-voice capable.

It's great that your dad and everyone else can hear the system and they have not opted for the ESK control channel option at this time. So call up the I.T. department of both cities and ask what their plans are if it's that important to you.
