The 162 is a much better scanner than the 160. I bought a 160 at the sale price, and hated the horrible audio and cheap construction of it so much I returned and bought a like-new 162 from a fellow on this board for the same price I paid for the 160.

Interesting....I have both the 160 and the 162. I can find nothing wrong with the audio or the construction of the 160.

Ditto. But then I have not taken it apart and closely examined the solder joints, wiring connections etc. - am I missing something?

Actually the online price at radioshack.com is 99.97 with free shipping too. Most stores are sold out, only available online.

I have the 160 and 162, but like I said before, the audio really seems 'muddy' on the 160. I use a external speaker on mine now and it sounds MUCH better.

I agree with the rest that love it. I've had my 160 going on week two and I've heard things on this radio that I've not heard on my others.

I just bought 2 today. They should go nicely with my 2096 in my rack I'm putting together. I'm looking for 1 more. Any ideas?
