There is a neighboring county I think I should be able to pick up with my PRO-162 scanner so I imported it from RR. It is Rockingham County, Virginia, site Valley. It seems to have imported properly but I am not picking up anything. When doing a service search I am picking up all of the control frequencies during the scan. Am I correct in assuming if I can pick up the control frequencies I should be able to pick up the traffic when in trunking mode? In other words, I can pick up the control frequencies in analog mode so I think I should be able to pick up the system in trunk mode?

Is this the system?

If so, you will not be able to monitor it with your Pro-162. ESK is in use, and virtually all of the talkgroups are ProVoice. ESK impacts the ability of the scanner to track the system. While ProVoice is not 'encryption as such, it is a format that your Pro-162 cannot decode. The only scanners that will decode ProVoice at this time are the Uniden 436HP, 536HP, 325P2, and 996P2, and that is only after a paid ProVoice upgrade is purchased.

Presuming that the database info is correct, the only non-ProVoice talkgroups I see are Rockingham and Harrisonburg county fire dispatch. If your scanner cannot follow an ESK system (and I suspect it cannot), you would not even be able to receive those.

To monitor the system as it currently exists, you would need at the least an ESK capable scanner, and also one with the ProVoice upgrade to monitor the majority of the talkgroups.

EDACS (including ProVoice) is ending end of life, with manufacturer support ending. So, most EDACS systems are converting to other formats, with some in my area switching to P25 Phase II, a digital format that cannot be monitored with the Pro-162 either.

I would suggest that you request your thread be moved to the Virginia forum. Someone there might have information of any upgrades or changes planned for this system. To do that, do not create a new thread. Instead, click on the red outlined triangle in the upper right corner of your original post, and request that a moderator move your thread to the state forum.

I didn't catch the ESK was in use. That explains why I can't receive it. Thanks for the reply.
