Hey Doc, I not an expert when it comes to giving reviews. I have never owned a BC246T so I can't say anything about that scanner. But I do own a pro-162. My first scanner was a pro-51 and I had just about every Radio Shack hand held minus the digital ones since. I liked the pro-94 and the 93, thought the 95 was great and the 97 was even better. But in my opinion the pro-162 is the best non- digital hand-held scanner Radio Shack has come out with.
Big LCD and easy to read tex-tags even with bad eyesight. Four line display. Says who is talking, what system, the frequency, and the P/L or DCS. Easy to program, even by hand. It has great sound weather it's conventional or trunked. It also has twenty banks of fifty channels instead of ten banks of a hundred. No problem with over-load, like I had with the pro163 and 164. Which both went back with-in a day. Scan's thru the channels and systems fast. I am sure I am missing a few things. But I highly recommend this scanner, I only wish they came out with the base version............Ray

Thanks for the review. I was set to buy either the 243 or the 162, I found a 243 for the same price as the 162 at Ham Radio Outlet in Burbank that someone bought and returned the same day, as they needed a digital scanner, the 243 came with a 30 day warranty + the Uniden warranty. I almost went for it but after much consideration and research here and talking with other scanner folk. I opted for a Uniden BCD396T. I is taking some getting use to, but I am getting it. I have never done trunking, and it seems to work fine. I am currently trying to get some ICIS trunking working, but it is tough when I am not in the ICIS area much. My old PRO-94 was great until it started to not pick up some certian freqs in my area.

Thanks for the input,
Denis
