Did The Update

I just did the update from 1.08 to 1.10. Unfortunately RadioShack does not have the release notes for 1.09 listing the changes. Does anyone have that information? I gather 1.10 only fixes the WX receive problem caused by 1.09.

The file that you d/l from RS is a self extracting zip file. You had to open this file to get to the update. In the zip were pdf files that explain what, why, and how for the upgrade.
I read that WX is the reason....it fixed mine.

I read the release notes in the ZIP file as well as at http://www.radioshack.com/graphics/uc/rsk/Support/ProductManuals/20-163_v110_FIRMWARE.pdf but they are not cumulative so there is no reference to any fixes prior to 1.10. I was curious what 1.09 brought to the table, other than the WX bug, that is included in the 1.10 update. The last release notes I have is for 1.08 and those too were not cumulative. You need to read the 1.07 and 1.06 documents to learn what was fixed in those releases. If 1.09 was available as a download, it and all references have been pulled from the RadioShack site.

My bad.
Since my 164 came out of the box with 1.09 and the WX didn't work I was happy to get 1.10.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think that it matters what the earlier firmware version updates were all about.

Also, I checked the RS website for the latest version the day I bought my 164 and the highest was 1.08.

I'm running v1.08 and all is well with my machine. Do I need to upgrade to v1.10 to fix something that's not broken or would I be better served to wait until later versions that might improve my scanner?

1.10 fixes a problem with WX reception that was caused by 1.09. I believe you must upgrade in order, you can't skip from 1.08 to 1.10. I have 1.10 and it works fine.

I was able to upgrade from 1.08 to 1.10 without any problems. What I was curious about was what did 1.09 do other than break WX reception. 1.10 is a fix for 1.09, but nothing in the release notes mentions what 1.09 fixes from 1.08.

I would NOT worry about Norton, it over \reacts.. .. gives lots of fake positives.

No problem here downloading from RS and the supplied link... AND I am running Norton. Make sure your virus protection is up to date, reboot if necessary, try again.

1.01 is your PRO-163 boot loader. The firmware is still 1.10.

I am running 1.09 and have no problems, and I listened to the weather for quite a few days during Sandy and had no problems.

"If it ain't broke don't fix it" applies here.

Besides, my Pro-164 is starting to act up again re: the 7th SCPD (dispatch & cops) breaking while speaking. It's way past warranty now so I'll end up getting another one now. It's only 22 months old.

help with pro 163... please

i have firmware 1.08, i cannot download 1.09 or 1.10 because my computer automatcally shuts the program down, saying its a harmful file. i am running norton. is there a big difference if im using 1.08?
