Pro 163 Blank Display Help!

Got a Pro 163 scanner and out of the blue the display went blank. The units seems to be working fine and backlight lights, but no readout on display. I took it apart and adjusted the ribbon cable, cleaned it with dry cloth and re-attached several times and still no display.

Anybody have any ideas how to fix or how much this repair would cost if needed to send out to Fort Worth for repair?

Did you check the contrast
Man > Func > 9 > Up arrow Key or down arrow key. >ENT key
and/or perform a initialization?
Turn on radio > Press 0 key >Press 1 key > press ENT key
you may have run into the dreaded LCD killed by a power surge. Make sure that your scanner is always off when applying power or starting your car. YMMV.

Use a pencil eraser to clean both sides of both ribbon cables.
IIRC, there is a smaller ribbon cable between the keypad board and the display in addition to the large one that runs from the main board to the keypad board.

I just tried your contrast adjustment, and it works beautifully. Now, my display is extremely sharp and clear...wondrous!

But I checked the Operating Manual and could not find this tip anywhere in there! Are there other tips, too?
