If you are trying to get the 163 to be recognized by Win96, it won't. As mentioned in the previous post, those other two software products are your only choice.

If you are uploading a new file to your Pro-163 DO NOT use the mono plug, use the stereo plug. Also under the scanner drop down you will need to choose Upload to Pro-163/164, PSR 300/400. Be sure to check the com port that the cable assigns and be sure to select that under the Configuration drop down.

DO NOT press any buttons on the radio. Just turn the radio on, plug the cable into the computer first, the radio next and then perform the upload. Wait for it to finish, it will take roughly 20 seconds and will show progress when it is running. If you have to "play" with the 3 check boxes in the serial port box, the so be it. Also be sure that you have the latest firmware updates.

Are you plugging into the PC/IF jack, or the headphone jack on the front? Makes all the difference:)

As N1BHH said, do NOT push any buttons after you plug in the cable into the PC/IF jack. You press "Upload to scanner" in the program.

took a break yesterday... first thing I did today was plug in my 2096 and had no problem.closed out win 96 and started win 97 ......played with program and then plugged the cable into the pro-163... as always says to press up, I picked download from pro163 and it did nothing...I than removed and re plugged in cable and pressed up and 1 and said no response remove cable......since I know the cable is working it must be the pro-163 is bad.....putting into box and returning it sat morning.
thank you for your help trying to get it to work.......

If RS does find a problem with your scanner would you please let me know the outcome. I have the same problem that you are having The cable works on a PSR500 & PSR600, but will not work on my 163 or 2067.

Next question: In the drop down box under scanner, did you click on upload to 163/164? If you clicked on upload to scanner, the program is looking for a 97, if you clicked on 300/400, it won't recognize the scanner.

DOWNLOAD FROM means you are READING what is programmed into the radio, if anything. UPLOAD TO means that you are programming the radio. It must be PRO-163/164, NOTHING ELSE. Is your cable connected to the PC/IF jack on the side of the radio?

yes the pro-163 came with stuff loaded into it.before I loaded anything I wanted to see what was in it as it did not stop on anything when it was scanning. I tried to upload twice and got nothing. the cable was plugged into the PC/IF jack as it is the same as my 2096.
I do not have the radio anymore.going to do something different for my friend.
Thank you for your help...As I said before, I have no problem downloading and uploading win 96 with my 2096. As far as I know win97 was working and the problem was the pro-163.

thank you again....
