pro 163 vs pro 433

Any opinions of which of these scanners would be the best buy and why? I'm looking for best performance between 154-160 mhz. Thanks!

If you want to hear between 154-160 mhz. then the 433 would be the one to go with. It does not have PL tone or Alpha tags though like the 163 but GRE's have terrible selectivity.

Thanks for the advice, does Uniden make the 433 or is it also made by GRE?

Ah, the 433 is made by Uniden, I might have to check into it.

The 433 is made by uniden. I have one and it is a great scanner and very well made. Just wish it had alpha tags but never the less, she is a keeper. One of Radio Shacks best.

I have the 163, and love having the alphatags and PL/DPL. No problems with 'lack of selectivity' on the VHF hi-band portion. Monitor many conventional frequencies and live near paging towers. Check on the database here on RR and make your decision based on what you wish to monitor. Personal preference, of course, is the final common denominator Now I just need to add a 197 to augment my scanning pleasure!
